If you cannot understand why it might be important to pay our respects to the generations that cared for the land we live on before an event, I would like you to unfollow my page.

I’m unbelievably upset at the recent video of a ‘Comedian’ pretending to be aboriginal and the racist portrayal of a welcome to country. If we do not stand up for our Indigenous Australian brothers and sisters, this racist behaviour will only get worse. Because it’s this kind of behaviour that emboldens those that already carry a victim mentality, to feel less of a failure while putting other people down. They blame others for their disenfranchised circumstances when really, the billionaires, big corporations and tech companies are orchestrating social inequality and fear mongering through their media empires and monopolies. They rig the algorythms to promote division and hate! I bet you 1000% this post will get seen by more people than any of the beautiful music and community event posts I’ve posted for years! I detest this about ‘social’ media!

How do we fight this slide into sectarianism? Stand up against racism and support Indigenous Artists, Musicians, Creatives and amplify Indigenous voices! Speak up against racism in your community and don’t stand for it! There are more of us than them. Stand together and denounce this kind of racist behaviour.

First image is of Aunty Beverly Hand yesterday at a gathering on Gubbi Gubbi / Kabi Kabi country and myself. As an Australian/Fijian I’m grateful every day to live on the Sunshine Coast and learn from our Traditional Custodians. My Indigenous Fijian heritage is from Matuku Island in Lau where my Uncle Tomasi was recently instated as the Chief of our village of Levukaidaku. We respect our elders and traditions and I carry this respect to the Indigenous Australians on the land that I live on.
