"The idea that Christ died to appease God’s wrath, and to reconcile Him to sinful man, is totally foreign to the Scriptures, and highly dishonoring to God. God is considered as like unregenerate man, desiring revenge, and not satisfied after any offence, without some victim of His wrath.

The idea is that an offence has been committed, and so somebody must be punished, must die; no matter who it is, only so satisfaction has been made, and His outraged feelings appeased by blood. This is called the Atonement!

On the contrary, it is pure heathenism; the idea cannot fitly be described by any other term than devilish, for it describes the character Satan, and not of God."

Pardoning, redeeming love is brought to view in Christ Jesus. Satan had misrepresented the character of God, and it was necessary that a correct representation should be made to worlds unfallen, to angels, and to men. Satan had declared that God knew nothing of self-denial, of mercy and love, but that he was stern, exacting, and unforgiving. Satan never tested the forgiving love of God; for he never exercised genuine repentance. His representations of God were incorrect; he was a false witness, an accuser of Christ, and an accuser of all those who throw off the Satanic yoke, and come back to render willing allegiance to the God of heaven.

Satan charged God with an unforgiving spirit, because he would not receive on terms of favor those who disobeyed his law and therefore misrepresented his character. But forgiveness of sins would be of no avail unless the course of transgression was abandoned, and the grace of Christ imparted to the sinner to renovate, purify, and ennoble him who had fallen by iniquity. This was the only way by which the sinner could be restored to divine favor, and trusted to come into copartnership with Jesus Christ. But in Christ we behold the character of the Father, and see the pitying tenderness which God exercised for fallen man, giving his only begotten Son as a ransom for the transgressors of the law. It is in beholding the love of God that repentance is awakened in the sinner’s heart, and an earnest desire is created to become reconciled to God. When the transgressor becomes acquainted with God, and experiences his love, it produces in his heart a hatred for sin and a love for holiness.

Does the acceptance of modern psychological theories lead to the conclusion that religious life is concerned only with the conscious mind, and that a very large part of human personality is left untouched and unchanged? Are we also to infer that the Christian must remain in a state where much of his being is in rebellion against God, or is alien to God? The answer for a Seventh-day Adventist is that all rebellion and everything that is alien to God must be eradicated from the heart before anyone can stand in God's presence. Let the people learn God's character before they talk about conducting war on Christian principles. War on Christian principles is just such war as Christ wages. 𝗛𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗲𝘀. On the contrary, He is filled with infinite love and pity for them, and He gives His life for them. "The Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them." Recently brethren in South Africa had a camp meeting teaching how to self-print and make booklets and books. Tommy Sebata has been printing now, inspired also by the work Richard Robison does in Philippines!
