Sound is perhaps the most neglected aspect of filmmaking, especially for students and beginners. Ryan Esther and I decided Foley was the perfect way to highlight the importance of sound and demonstrate the multilayered aspect of filmmaking. The Peregian Digital Hub and the wonderpod was THE perfect venue for this!

The fast approaching reality that anyone who can type a prompt will be able to generate useable (and sometimes stunning) visual content is a lowering of the floor that some in the industry fear. This "Gatekeeper" mentality is understandable in an industry that is so competitive but it ignores the fact that these tools will be available to everyone on a level playing field...including said gatekeepers. So why not leave that gate open and come join us as we try to expand the fence instead? Today we chat about how we are using our existing skill set to enhance Ai generated content.

In the January school holidays, along with Ryan Neil Butler, we launched something specialโ€”our first-ever ๐—ก๐—ฒ๐˜…๐˜ ๐—š๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—™๐—ถ๐—น๐—บ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ ๐—•๐—ผ๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฝ. Over three and a half days, we guided 10 passionate students through the essentials of filmmaking and with a whole lot of hands-on learning.

The energy, creativity, and engagement we saw were beyond inspiring. It was an inaugural workshop, but the success was so clear that weโ€™re already looking at ways to expand and offer even more opportunities for young storytellers.

Ai video results are still far from perfect and really do suffer from a lack of control. While this may be heaps of fun if you're just playing it can be extremely frustrating if you are working to a brief or have a very specific result in mind. Quite often, you find yourself settling for something close (but not perfect). So is "Good Enough" going to be a mainstay of Ai generated content? Perhaps in the short term yes. Ai is still being developed, the engines still be refined and trained. As more and more people use it, the better it should get. In the meantime there are some things you can do to help shape your Ai video results. Until Ai gets better at interpreting prompts and people get better at prompting (2 closely tied processes it seems) Ai "Wrangling" techniques like the one we tested here today will help you get closer to what you want.

Is AI threatening us here at Aesop Media?

Not really. Not yet anyway. In fact, the AI tools we are using are speeding up our normal workflows and allowing us to create things previously beyond our capability due to cost, processing power and most of all time. There is a problem though. AI is developing at a rate that is nearly impossible to keep up with and this is not surprising.

Think about it. AI is being used primarily to solve problems and save time. So If AI is being used to develop AI tools then there is a positive feedback loop which is exponentially fuelling the growth of AI capabilities. This is an important thing to understand because it means that AI is not going to go away and so it falls to ethical users to become early adopters of this technology in order to offset the inevitable misuses of new technologies that comes along with it.

We have been lucky to be invited by the Peregian Digital Hub to use the amazing Wonderpod as a space to explore, play and filter through the myriad of AI tools now available and develop working systems and processes for the visual storytelling industries.
