This week is a different one I got to go up to Maleny and give this old church a much needed resand. Going for something a little different the owner wanted a nice gloss solvent based polyurethane and doesn't it bring out the nice rich colours in the crows ash timber! Even I Still Get Surprised by How Good These Old Floors Come Up!

After tearing up years of vinyl and carpet, this old timber floor still had rubber underlay glued down. No worries — with a bit of kerosene, some cross-cutting, and 24-grit, the Hummel made light work of it! Once the surface was clean and flat, we finished it off with a stunning solvent-based gloss coat — and just like that, the floor was completely transformed.

Ready to move in on!

Check out this floor the owners of this home wanted the floors in their granny flat looking fresh. So I resanded and coated with a waterbased matte polyurethane and doesn't it look fresh and flat. Perfect to live on as the matte finish wont reflect the dirt and hair like a gloss.

Check out this weeks old school solvent based polyurethane gloss 👌!

Laid and uncoated this timber had developed bows and still had a few band marks!
Uncoated so the process was straight forward I cross cut it slowling to remove all bows and marks and then business as usual sanding with the grain. I coated this one with solvent based sealer and two coats of solvent based gloss and isn't it shiny and flat?

Don’t they look great with a solvent-based gloss polyurethane finish on top?

Take a look at this 100-year-old floor! I had my work cut out for me with this one. It was coated in Black Japan, Red Japan, and had a bit of underlay and some old newspaper. The paper had been there so long that the ink had seeped through to the timber. We decided to leave a square of the paper to show a bit of history. It had been at least 100 years since the floor was last sanded. The floor came up a treat, featuring a variety of timber boards including 6-inch pine, brush box, and some crow’s ash. Don’t they look great with an Intergrain Australia water-based matte polyurethane finish on top!

It's surprising the difference a sand and a couple coats can make on the most weathered decks.

Personally I prefer oil coatings over waterbased as they allow them to look more natural and not that glad wrapped artificial look waterbased coatings leave.

WOW these homeowners were amazed by the colours in this floor. It's amazing how much a waterbased coating can lighten up the overall look of a floor and in turn the whole house.
