Hey, I’m Sam — editor and publisher of Equestrienne Magazine. I’m also a working photographer, I started out covering events but now mostly work with private equestrian clients and businesses. My approach to creativity is pretty intuitive — lots of trial and error, and I’ve come to trust that process. My mum once said my heart is in my eyes, I really like that.
I like strong, feminine imagery and a luxe aesthetic, but it’s always got to have an authentic, grounded tone, and at the heart of it all is our love and respect for the horse. Our teammates, our best friends, our greatest muse.
I grew up in inner Sydney and had no reason to be as horse-obsessed as I was — but horses always found me. I had a pretty transient upbringing, and wherever we went, I found horses... and friends.
After school, I wanted to be a journalist but took the “sensible” path instead. That clearly wasn’t for me — I ended up dropping out of two degrees, met my husband then moved to France. We had our first baby there, and I learned a lot about following your passion and living well. The French just know how to live — that effortless savoir-faire, their appreciation for beauty, simple pleasures, and pride in one’s profession stayed with me. Even the name Equestrienne is a subtle nod to French culture— feminine, elegant, and effortlessly chic.
We eventually came back to Australia to be with aging family and had another baby. When my Nan became palliative, I was caring for her at home. I hated having to leave her to go to an unfulfilling job. One day, feeling desperate, I asked the universe for a sign — and the idea for the magazine just dropped in.
What began as a quiet idea has become a refined space for women that live and ride with style. At its heart, Equestrienne is about platforming women across equestrian sport and industry — riders, creatives, makers, and professionals.
Our content is less results-driven than traditional reportage. Instead, our focus is on real stories, diverse voices, and the deeper connection we share with horses.
We’re building the most beautiful equestrian magazine in the world. And bringing together a community at the same time. Aesthetically, it’s next-level. Emotionally, it’s relatable.
It’s not just pretty – it’s purposeful. This is more than a magazine. This is a movement. And we’re just getting started.
Thanks for coming along for the ride. Sam x
