Sunday Spills!

Every Sunday, I share my most popular photo from the week, tell you the story and share my tips about how I took the photo.

‘Killer Sunsets’

One of the most amazing sunsets I have ever watched. This is most definitely one of my favourite sunset shots. It was taken in Hope Island on 24th of June.

The clouds this day where really interesting. There where lots of different textures. I could tell that it was going to be a good sunset if they stuck around. I had being paying close attention throughout the day to see if they would stick around for sunset. Luckily they did!

About 2 hours before the sunset, I went onto a website called Sunset WX. It is a website that forecasts the sunset. Areas that are marked bright red means that there should be a good sunset. This day, the whole of the Gold Coast was covered red.

After the sun had gone down, about 10 minutes after the colours really started to pop. I chose to get close to the water on this shot as the wind was very light which resulted in the reflections on the water.

Camera Used and Settings:
- Canon 80D
- 10-18mm lens at 10mm
- Shot at 1/100, ISO 100 and f/5.0
- Edited in Lightroom and Photoshop

Sunday Spills!

Every Sunday, I share my most popular photo from the week posted on my Instagram account, tell you the story behind the photo and share my tips about how I took the photo.

'The Moment Where Everything Lines Up!'

This photo is one of my favourite water shots. It was taken at Main Beach.

I was watching the tide, wind and swell very carefully for weeks before. The day that I took this shot, all of the elements lined up. The tide was going from high to low which made the waves really 'sucky' and resulted in wide open barrels. The swell was 2ft and coming in a SE direction which allowed me to shoot in a southern direction. This allowed me to capture the buildings in the photo. There was a very calm onshore wind which resulted in soft textures inside and on top of the barrel.

Camera Used and Settings:

- Sony a6000 with a Meikon water housing
- 16-50mm lens at 16mm
- Shot at 1/1000, ISO 200 and f/8.0
- Edited in Lightroom and Photoshop

Make sure you check out my Instagram .

Until next week, Keep Shooting!
