With his infectious warmth and beaming smile, Walter Nand is something of a staple of the Australian travel industry.

Currently BDM for NSW/ACT at Sun Island Tours and general manager of his own business, Rediscover Travel Group, it is hard to imagine Nand doing anything other than selling in travel.

Yet despite appearances, he says he was not always a natural salesperson.

“When I first started, I was absolutely rubbish. I couldn’t sell anything,” he told Travel Weekly.

The turning point came during a conversation with a potential client, who called him out directly: he had been ready to sign, but Nand had never actually asked for the order.

“He said, ‘I was ready to sign, but you just never asked me to,'” Nand recalls.

That moment changed his approach to sales.
