An interview with the author of 'BuriednTruths-Respecting Huskisson's Heritage', Shirley Fitzgerald, is being aired this morning, 10 July, on ABC Illawarra Radio at 10:35. Please listen in if you can and hear about this community action to save Huskisson Church and Burial grounds. Looking forward to hear Shirley's interview by Jake Cupitt.

This is the story of a small coastal community who refused to look away, the story of ordinary, persistent people who stood up to developers & decided their little heritage church & the surrounding First Nations burial ground was worth fighting for.
' Buried Truths Respecting Huskisson's Heritage ' embraces the Indigenous history of this town & its connection to the Holy Trinity Church & traces the journey from 1998's first heritage study to 2024 when the site was finally listed & has been meticulously & beautifully recorded by local author historian Shirley Fitzgerald with contributions from many others.
This is the story of our community, its extraordinary inhabitants & a very old, beautiful heritage building.
It is important to note, although the church is now heritage listed, this does not halt ongoing deterioration of the building or the site.

We have Buried Truths in stock & also the moving sculpture by local artist Brant Noack.

Envirobook is delighted to invite you to the launch of

Buried Truths
Respecting Huskisson's Heritage
by Shirley Fitzgerald

When & Where:
Saturday 5 July 2025, 3pm-5pm,

at the Huskisson Community Centre, 17 Dent Street, Huskisson, NSW 2540.

When the community learned of plans to demolish Huskisson’s treasured Church, trash its old growth trees and deny the extent of its burial ground, few thought that the campaign that emerged to save this much loved place would succeed. Six years on the site is heritage listed. Now a local publisher and skilled designer have created a beautiful book to complement the story written by one of Australia’s finest social historians.
There will be a small display of materials relating to the immense and creative efforts that went into this community driven campaign.

Light refreshments will be provided.

The book will be available for purchase at the event.

Brand New Release.

South Coast Islands New South Wales
A GUIDE TO THE 61 ISLANDS OF THE SOUTH COAST OF NSW

This book explores 61 islands of the South Coast of NSW. These islands don't have palm-fringed beaches where you sip cocktails at sunset, and a few people could name more than a handful. But each adds scenic splendour to our rugged coastline and picturesque lakes, rivers and estuaries. Some of the 20 coastal islands are wild and inaccessible to all but migrating birds. Others offer day trippers sandy beaches, spectacular coastal views and delightful rock platforms to explore. Many of the 41 estuarine islands are tranquil and beckoning; some are simply mud and mangroves; a handful are privately owned. All have significant biodiversity values. Apart from a few scientific studies, little has been written about all but two of the islands, and nothing collectively. For three years the authors led walks and kayak trips to, past or around all of the islands, then decided to fill the information gap and write this book. It is not just a book for bushwalkers and kayakers. In it you will find out about Aboriginal connections to the islands, early European coastal exploration and settlement, geology, flora, birds, lighthouses, shipwrecks and more. This is the first-ever book about the islands of the NSW South Coast.
