Sherrie Sinatra Interview – PWDU Talks To Australia’s First Female Wrestler

The majority of teenage girls in the 1970s adhered to the conventional markers of adulthood, which included marriage and motherhood. Some women chose to pursue careers in fields such as teaching, nursing, or secretarial work, but it was doubtful the words “women” and “wrestler” would have been used in the same sentence.

Enter, Sherrie Sinatra, Australia’s first professional female wrestler. Hailing from Victoria, Sinatra’s interest in wrestling sparked when she attended a wrestling event at Festival Hall with her aunt. A few years later, she sought out a trainer, Ken Fuhrer, and began training.

PW Down Under spoke with Sinatra, who shared her journey as Australia’s first professional female wrestler. Speaking about her beginnings in wrestling, Sinatra described her experience working with World Championship Wrestling and what it was like to be employed in a male-dominated industry.
