In 1975, four Soviet soldiers who took part in the Reichstag assault reunited on Soviet television: Kantaria, Neustroev, Zinchenko and Syanov.

A rare reunion of men who witnessed the final days of N**i Germany.

Spring 1945 marked the final weeks of N**i Germany. Allied armies were closing in from the west, Soviet forces were advancing from the east, and German cities lay heavily damaged after years of war.

On April 30, Adolf Hi**er died in Berlin. Days later, Germany surrendered unconditionally on May 8, 1945, bringing the war in Europe to an end.

The Reich that had sought to reshape Europe through war was collapsing, and by May 1945, the N**i regime was gone.

Just over a decade after the end of World War II, East Germany staged a massive military parade through Berlin.

The uniforms were sharp. The streets were filled with crowds, flags, marching soldiers and official ceremonies. But behind the spectacle, the city still bore visible scars from the war.

Berlin was rebuilding, but the destruction of 1945 had not simply disappeared.
A city that had witnessed one of the most devastating wars in history was now being used to project a very different message: strength, order and a new socialist state.
