Grief shows up in different ways.

It’s not always expressed as crying.

More often it’s
❤️ Not quite feeling like yourself
❤️ Brain fog
❤️ Difficulty making decisions
❤️ Impatience
❤️ Anger
❤️ Confusion
❤️ Feeling teary
❤️ Feeling slow
❤️ Anxiety
❤️ And a mix of other emotions

All of them are valid and normal.

And confusingly sometimes we may
💙 Laugh
💙 Feel joy
💙 Relief
💙 Happiness
💙 Love
💙 Tenderness
💙 Gratitude

This is completely normal.

Competing emotions can live side by side.

Remember, you are not alone. There is support out there.

It may be friends and family or you may choose to seek professional help. Do what feels right for you.

If you need to talk, my DM’s are always open.

I was fortunate to remember my great grandmother, Dee. As a family we would visit her most weekends for Sunday lunch, always a roast dinner.

It is a time in my life I remember fondly.

Aside from the Sunday roasts and awesome family Christmases, I remember my Dad bringing a tape recorder, yes it was the 80’s, and over many visits he would ask questions about her life.

I remember sitting next to Dee listening with great interest to her telling tales from her remarkable life.

✨ She was widowed at an early age
✨ She raised two children on her own
✨ She was the Publican of the Prince of Wales pub in Gulgong
✨She was loyal and resilient
She was our gentle, yet strong matriarch

To have her life story in her own words, it is a special memory and a gift I am eternally grateful for ❤️

Have you considered your legacy and how to record it for future generations?

And for a bit of light hearted fun, the out takes from our recording and video session.

It was a great day, full of laughs and storytelling with some of my favourite humans and of course, Molly and Georgie making themselves heard!

A huge thank you to Anastasia from .grey.suits who created the videos and guided us through the day.

Most people who know me are aware I am passionate about organ donation.

This is because I donated a kidney to my Dad 19 years ago and I saw first hand the impact on Dad as he deteriorated while he waited for a donor kidney.

So as part of the ongoing “nobody knows/the secret I’m glad I shared” campaign for Dying to Know Day (which is held every year throughout August), I have told the people in my life I want to be an organ donor.

I have registered as a donor via the donate life website, included my wishes in my will, written it down and told the people in my life who may be making decisions for me as I age.

What’s one of your end of life wishes you need to share?

I often talk about being prepared in the event of your death.

One thing I have noticed is our pets are overlooked in this process.

And the result of this is heartbreaking…

Once loved and adored pets become homeless because their human has died.

The sad reality is some of these pets are euthanised because shelters don’t have space for them or they become so distressed in a pound environment behavioural problems start to arise.

My gentle reminder, please include your pet/s in your end of life plan…. Because their continued happiness and life might just depend on it.

What’s your plan for your pet in the event of your death?

*post inspired by Stewie, a 10 year old American Staffordshire Terrier mix, who’s owner sadly died. He needs a forever home.
