Many of us have been led to believe that resilience is about doing hard things. Getting uncomfortable. Putting on a ruck in the rain, having ice baths, tolerating Mother Nature's conditions and lifting heavy stuff. It is all those things, and at the same time, perhaps there's a more gentle approach to resilience. There's somebody in hospital right now who is in pain but bearing up. There's a company owner who's taken a hard knock but needs to stand in front of their team and keep them in the game. There's somebody who's gone through the heartbreak of a breakup, and they still need to front each morning for their children and then go to work, present in the boardroom, and do it all again tomorrow with a brave face. Resilience has many faces and I think that's what I like about Melli O'Brien. Melli wrote ‘Deep Resilience: A Four-Step Journey to Unshakable Inner Strength,’ giving us a step-by-step guide to navigating life’s challenges. The book is for those who might feel overwhelmed by life’s whirlwind pace, crave calm, and seek the strength to build confidence. In 2025, Mindful magazine named Melli one of the most powerful women in the mindfulness movement. Melli's journey has not been easy; she has experienced the loss of two family members and a divorce, and when she lost another family member while running a business, each blow took a toll on her, leading to physical and mental symptoms that resulted in chronic illness. However, this challenging period ultimately brought about significant insights for Melli.
