For a long time after you left…
sleep felt like a place I didn’t want to go.

Because the nights were the loudest.
That empty space beside the bed.
That missing sound of you turning in your sleep… the soft sigh you always made before settling down.

I would close my eyes and bargain with the dark.
Just one more dream.
Just one more time to see you healthy… running… looking at me the way you always did.

Most nights… nothing came.
Only the ache.

And then one night…
it was different.

No big moment.
No bright light.
Just a quiet meadow under a soft sky that felt warmer than any place I’ve ever known.

And there you were.

Not sick.
Not tired.
Not carrying the heaviness you had at the end.

Your fur looked full again.
Your eyes bright.
Your tail moving in that slow, happy way that always meant everything was okay.

You didn’t bark.
You didn’t rush.

You just walked over… gently… like you knew my heart was still fragile…
and leaned against me the way you used to when words weren’t needed.

And somehow… in that silent dream…
I understood.

You weren’t asking to come back.
You weren’t saying goodbye again.

You were showing me something.

That you were safe.
That the pain had fallen away from you like an old collar finally unclipped.
That wherever you are… the air is soft, the ground is kind, and nothing hurts anymore.

I woke up with tears on my face.
But not the sharp ones.

These felt… warm.
Like something inside my chest had finally loosened its grip just a little.

Maybe it was only a dream.
Maybe it was my heart trying to heal.

Or maybe…
your peace finally found a way to reach me.

And now when the nights come…
I don’t fear them quite as much.

Because somewhere beyond the quiet…
I know you’re resting easy.

And sometimes…
love travels farther than grief ever could. 🐾

Dogs really will love you harder than anyone else… and then look you dead in the eyes while they “accidentally” walk off with your sandwich. 😂

That mix of pure loyalty and zero shame is exactly why we adore them. They don’t just share our homes - they share our snacks, our couches, our routines, and somehow they make even the messy days feel lighter.

And honestly, it’s the little things that become the big things: the happy feet when you grab the leash, the head tilt when you say their name, the way they sit close like you’re their safe place.

You can be stressed, broke, tired, or having one of those weeks - and they still choose you every single time. That kind of love is priceless… even if it costs you lunch.
