ranking matcha powder because i clearly am too invested πŸ΅πŸ’ž

1. Yamamasa Koyamen
a fan fave, the Samidori in particular was lovely on the palate and mixed well with other flavours. always reliable for me

2. Maruyuku Koyamen
there's a reason why this is a favourite among many, the quality is insanely good and whisks into a beautiful fluffy froth. of the three varieties ive tried, i would recommend the 'Ittekisui' but it can get pretty pricey

3. Ippodo Tea
both Ikuyo and Hatsu were smooth and fine, with a signature bright green colour

4. Meiso
one of the first matcha powders i tried that really got me into the whole craze. smooth, delicious and not bitter in the slightest

5. Cre Asion Izumo Matcha & Hojicha
i loved their hojicha powder, even more than the matcha! great nutty flavour and was a lighter roast than others i've tried. matcha was pretty good too!

6. Ms Cattea
their Uji matcha is really nice on the palate, and on the sweeter side which i enjoyed

7. Muji Cha-House
also really like their hojicha, which is a bit of a darker roast. the matcha powder was not too bad, but i definitely preferred the hojicha here more

8. Matcha-Ya Premium
a lovely ceremonial grade that is more bitter and umami, but still with a bright colouring and flavour

9. Matcha Hagoromo
for a very affordable option, this matcha is really good. i think i picked this up for around $4-5 at my local Tongli supermarket, so the cost per use is amazing. its not the highest quality matcha but still has a lovely flavour and whisks up really well

10. Osulloc
i picked this one up in Jeju island on my trip to Korea, and i have to say i had much higher expectations for this. it was quite expensive (~$55 per 40g bottle) but i didn't get much flavour payoff and the colour was a little muted

11. Morning Made
i don't like the addition of cane sugar in this, as it becomes hard to sift, whisk and doesn't melt all of the way if you're brewing your water at 80Β°c. the flavour wasn't too bad but at $10 a pack, i wouldn't buy it again

12. Asahina Maccha
don't buy this. its cheap but it's obvious why it's cheap, it can barely get a good froth and the colour is almost grey. skip this one!

is a stunning new venue in Woolloomoo, adorned with baby pink tablecloths and a summery feel 🩷🧑 they welcomed us in with a 'Soup Shot' that was lovely and warming in this winter weather!

started off with HandMade Pita Bread and Ntinos' Mezze with a spread of olives, fava, tarama, tzatziki, melitzanosalata, my fave of the lot was definitely the taramasalata! then we refreshed our palate with Tartare 'Giouvarlakia' which consisted of tuna, olives and crispy rice paper which practically melted in the mouth. flavours were bright and tangy! ✨

we also added the Saganaki as an extra because what's lunch without boiling hot cheese? it had just the right amount of sweet and salty, with a smoked lemon flavour. πŸ‹

for mains, we dived into the Arnaki with succulent lamb shoulder, chmichurri and fresh lemon, served with Patates (fried potatoes) and Horiatiki classic Greek salad. we of course had to add the Makaronia Karavides which ended up being my favourite dish, the smooth linguine was divine alongside the Moreton Bay bug. 🍝

dessert was super exciting and theatrical with table-smashed Galaktoboureko with light, fluffy layers of filo, cream & honey. the Chocolate Trilogy is slammed onto the table from a huge tub and featured a trio mousse with popping candy. I actually really enjoyed it paired with the Pagoto, a Greek yoghurt sorbet with honey crumble. 🍯

Price: classic set menu $80pp + extras
