Interesting facts of Australia

🌏 Geography & Nature

1- Largest island, smallest continent: Australia is the world’s smallest continent but the largest island β€” surrounded by the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

2- Home to the Great Barrier Reef: The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system and can even be seen from space.

3- 90% of Australians live on the coast: Due to the arid interior (the Outback), most people live in cities along the coast like Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

4- Uluru changes color: The massive sandstone monolith in the Northern Territory shifts color depending on the time of day and weather, glowing red at sunrise and sunset.

World’s longest fence: The Dingo Fence stretches over 5,600 km across Australia, built to keep dingoes away from fertile land in the southeast.

🐨 Wildlife
5- More kangaroos than people: There are around 50 million kangaroos in Australia β€” about twice the human population.

6- Unique animals: Australia is home to many species found nowhere else, including the platypus, echidna, wombat, and koala.

7- Deadliest animals? Not really: While Australia has a reputation for dangerous creatures, fatal encounters with spiders or snakes are extremely rare.

πŸ™οΈ Culture & Society

8- Multicultural nation: Nearly 30% of Australians were born overseas, making it one of the most multicultural countries in the world.

9- First to give women the vote: In 1902, Australia became the second country (after New Zealand) to allow women to vote and the first to allow them to run for parliament.

10- Home of Vegemite: This iconic and salty spread is loved by Aussies but often misunderstood by visitors β€” made from leftover brewers’ yeast extract.

πŸŽ“ History & Innovation

11- Ancient Indigenous culture: Aboriginal Australians have lived on the continent for over 65,000 years, making it one of the world’s oldest continuous cultures.

12- Invented Wi-Fi: Australian scientists at the CSIRO helped pioneer the technology behind modern Wi-Fi.

13- First feature-length film: Australia produced the world’s first full-length narrative movie, The Story of the Kelly Gang, in 1906.

🌞 Random & Fun

14- Christmas in summer: Due to its location in the Southern Hemisphere, Australians celebrate Christmas during the summer holidays β€” often with BBQs or beach trips
