Millions of Australians are living so close to the edge that a sudden job loss or medical bill could push them into crisis.

A new Finder survey shows nearly two in five people — about 7.9 million Australians — don’t have enough savings to cover just three months of essential expenses.

Worryingly, one in five admitted they find it “very difficult” to put any money aside at all.

Almost one in 10 Australians admit they don’t yet have a three-month savings buffer but are working towards it, while 8% say they don’t believe an emergency fund is even necessary.

Finder money expert Alison Banney warned that this leaves millions of households exposed to sudden shocks such as job loss or illness.
“Just one unexpected setback — like being made redundant or facing a health scare — could plunge families into financial chaos,” she said.

Anthony Albanese has arrived in London for a three-day visit to the United Kingdom, where he will hold talks with several world leaders.
Following five days in New York attending the United Nations, the Prime Minister met with UK leader Keir Starmer in London before travelling to Liverpool to address a Labour Party conference.

He is also scheduled to meet with the Spanish, Danish, and Canadian Prime Ministers as part of efforts to strengthen defence and trade ties with the UK and Europe.

AUKUS is seen as vital to reinforcing the UK’s industrial base, making continued US involvement essential for all members of the alliance.

The visit follows Anthony Albanese’s first address to the United Nations General Assembly, where he diverged from US President Donald Trump on major issues, including the recognition of Palestine.

A major bank has agreed to repay $321 million lost in a collapsed superannuation fund after being taken to court by the corporate watchdog.
Macquarie will return the money to around 3,000 Australians who invested in the failed Shield Master Fund.

According to court documents filed by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) on Thursday, the bank admitted to breaching the Corporations Act.

ASIC alleges Macquarie failed to place the fund on a watch list for heightened monitoring, meaning it did not take all reasonable steps to ensure its financial services were delivered “efficiently, honestly and fairly.”

The regulator has now launched proceedings in the Federal Court against Macquarie Investment Management Limited.

Some investors reported on social media support groups that repayments had already started arriving in their accounts on Thursday.

A Victorian tourism body and local council have suggested introducing an entry fee for visitors to the iconic Twelve Apostles along the Great Ocean Road.

Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism (GORRT) and Corangamite Shire have urged the state government to back what they describe as a “once-in-a-generation” chance to roll out a user-pays system for the landmark.

According to their joint statement, the fee would help fund infrastructure, conservation, community wellbeing, and improve the visitor experience.

Shocked airline passengers captured the moment dozens of travelers rushed to disembark a plane after learning Donald Trump had introduced a $100,000 charge on H-1B foreign visas.

Video from San Francisco Airport showed several Indian passengers attempting to exit an Emirates flight just before its scheduled departure to Dubai.

Fearing the new rule, many panicked travelers worried that leaving the U.S. would force them to pay the massive fee if they tried to return after the September 21 midnight deadline.

The uproar seemed to arise from conflicting information released by the White House about how the new visa fee would be applied.
On Friday, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated it would be an annual charge, but by Saturday the White House clarified it was a one-time payment.

While the restrictions would not affect current H-1B holders, the mixed messages sparked panic among passengers on the India-bound flight.

According to immigration updates, people from Uganda, Sudan, Somalia, Cameroon, Libya, Afghanistan, Yemen, Lebanon and Bangladesh will not be able to apply for new tourist or work permits until further notice. The decision covers all fresh applications, while ongoing ones remain on hold.

Although UAE authorities have not officially explained the reason, the step is believed to be linked to security concerns and regional diplomatic matters. Officials have also indicated that this restriction is not permanent but will remain in place until the situation improves.

Just In : Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been left off Donald Trump’s official meeting schedule in New York, forcing him to seek a brief handshake with the US president during a crowded reception of more than 100 world leaders.

Trump, meanwhile, criticised Australia and other nations for recognising a Palestinian state, with his press secretary Karoline Leavitt saying the move rewarded Hamas and failed to secure the return of Israeli hostages.

Albanese downplayed the issue last week, telling the ABC: “We will meet when we meet … arrangements will be finalised when they’re finalised.”

He is still expected to see President Trump at a reception on Tuesday night (Wednesday AEST), which Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt said would include more than 100 world leaders.
“I’ll be talking with him there,” Albanese confirmed to Channel Seven’s Sunrise on Monday.

Following the reception, Trump will return to Washington, where he is set to host a bilateral meeting and lunch with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday.
