A young driver in Sydney has copped a hefty fine for an act she had no idea was illegal.
22year lady told her story using TikTok.

β€œI just got pulled over by the cops, because they were doing random breath testing,” she said.

β€œHe goes, β€˜Why is your phone plugged into the navigation?’. I was like, β€˜Because I need to get somewhere’. He was like, β€˜No, you’re not allowed to have that’.”

Young lady said she had no idea she wasn’t allowed to have her phone plugged in, at which point the police officer pulled out a road user handbook to clarify that what she was doing was, in fact, illegal, due to her being on her Provisional P2 licence.
As a result, she copped a fine of over $400, and five demerit points.

β€œWhile full licence holders are allowed to use their mobile phone while driving for specific purposes such as navigation, P platers are not,”

β€œUnder Rule 300-1 of the Road Rules 2014, P-platers are only allowed to use their mobile phone if the vehicle is stationary and it is being used to make a payment, such as at a drive through fast food outlet.”

The RBA has opted to hold the cash rate steady on Melbourne Cup Day, spooked by persistent inflation and leaving more than three million Australian mortgage holders without another round of relief.

After its November meeting on Tuesday, the monetary policy board announced it would pause its quarterly rate-cutting cycle, keeping the official cash rate unchanged at 3.6 per cent.
