Luka was attacked yesterday by a big dog when he was minding his own business playing fetch at the beach. We were mindful of him and was watching him, but then a dog suddenly came at him and started knocking him out. Luka’s dad was able to grab the dog right away but the owner didn’t do anything and was even walking ahead of his dog so he was unaware of what happened. we even had to chase him to get his details and made him aware that they have to be accountable for what happened, luckily he was cooperative. We saw Luka’s eye bleeding so we had to rush him right away to the emergency vet, and was advised that his eyelid needs to be stitched right away as the attacker’s teeth was able to cut through it. Today, we took him to the vet and was able to get his stitches done. We were worried that his demeanour will change because of what happened, but we were told by the nurses that he was active even after waking up from the anaesthetic.
If you live in Howrah/Bellerive in tasmania, please always MIND your dog, just because it’s an offlead beach doesnt mean that you’ll completely zone off, as told by the vets, apparently dog attacks / aggressive dogs are rampant in Bellerive beach. LET THIS BE A REMINDER TO MIND YOUR DOG AT ALL TIMES. If anything happens, it’s your fault as an owner.
Whilst this wasn’t on our bingo cards as we are just staycationing at Luka’s grandpawrents’ house in Tassie, we’re still very grateful that HE IS OKAY. Luka is very strong-willed and brave, but for now he has to wear the cone of shame.
Please include Luka’s recovery in your prayers and intentions. 🙏🏽
