// LESSONS LEARNED //
Lately, I’ve seen a lot of social media posts about how tough it is to break into the EDM/DJ scene - especially in Sydney. It’s real — and I’ve definitely felt it too.
So I wanted to share a few things I’ve learned along the way. Maybe they’ll resonate with someone else who's on this path or feeling the same way I feel sometimes. Please remember, you are not alone, and you can do this.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you need a shoulder to lean on or an ear to listen.
1. “Your true audience will always find you.”
Never sacrifice your authenticity in an attempt to cater to the masses.
2. "Don’t force the process.”
Whether it’s a mixtape, arranging a DJ set, or writing a new track—if it doesn’t flow or feel right, don’t push it. Give yourself the space to step back and recalibrate, no matter how long it takes. It’s OK to admit when something isn’t working."
3. “You put s**t in, you get s**t out.”
Always give your best, 100% of the time. Don’t get lazy and complacent; this is when things will start to unravel.
4. “Be like a horse with blinders - keep your head down and stay focused on your path.”
It’s easy to get distracted by what other artists are doing and posting on social media, but ultimately, you are the only one responsible for how you feel. Focus on your craft and strive to get the best out of it.
5. “Hold your cards close to your chest.”
Keeping things to yourself for as long as possible can be a good idea, because it means you don’t have to worry about what others might think or say if things change, whether for better or worse. Which brings us to the next point..
6. “Surround yourself with honest, trustworthy people.”
We all need tough love and protection at times, so it's crucial to have the right people around you to succeed. These individuals genuinely want to see you thrive and will do everything they can to help you get there. Cherish and nurture these relationships—whether professional or personal—and always give as much as you receive.
