I’m very proud to announce that I’ll be starting a new radio show on Radio Al-Hara, broadcasting from Bethlehem, Palestine. It will be once a month on the third Saturday. It starts today at 6pm AEST, 11am Bethlehem & Cairo, 08:00 GMT.

The show will be called ‘The Search Continues…’ the sister show to ‘The Search Party’ that I do every Wednesday on 2SER. I hope you can listen and support Radio Al-Hara, the Sonic Liberation Front of Palestine.

Suite Grooves Feature Album - 25 Years of Hydrofunk

Hydrofunk is officially the longest running independent Hip Hop label In Australia with releases by Resin Dogs, Def Wish Cast and Blunted Stylus featuring in many crate digger's collections.
Five years after their '20 Years of Hydrofunk' the much loved Brisbane label has done it again, digging up 35 tracks from their catalogue including a few lost remixes of Resin Dogs by DJ Betty Oz, Two Fresh and DJ Slynk. There's also two tracks from Japanese female rapper, singer and astrologer Coma Chi off her Shades of Yellow EP. Nobodys Business by Bankrupt Billionaires brings big band sounds with female vocals, and Suite Grooves also enjoyed Breechboy's low slung hip hop 'Nothing Yet’.

Suite Grooves Feature Album – Funk ‘N Beats 10 Curated by Boca 45

Boca 45 aka Scott Hendy is a prolific UK based breaks DJ, producer, remixer and curator. He’s worked with Geoff Barrow (Portishead) as Dynamo Productions and Purple Penguin on Cup of Tea Records and played at gigs handpicked by Banksy. It’s his work as Boca 45 that he’s best known for – producing many of his own 7” releases and spinning many collectible mixes for Juno, Dickies clothing and often on soundcloud. Each mix tips obscure funk, hip hop and breaks into the mixing pot – along with new Boca 45 tracks. His contribution to Bomb Strikes’ Funk N’ Beats series is one of his finest featuring tracks by Katalyst, Bronx Dogs and Krafty Kuts & Charli 2Na. ‘Seven Breaks’ by French artist Aeon 7 has a real car chase vibe while Swiss DJ Tron’s ‘Funky Break’ funks out. These two tracks stuck out as unique: old school hip hop vibin’ of Soundsci’s ‘The Ultimate (Beats & Breaks mix)’ along with a classic party starter from X-Ray Ted ‎’Doin' My Thing’. Funk N’ Beats has unmixed & mixed versions.

Suite Grooves Feature Album

STR4TA - STR4TASFEAR

Str4ta is a collaboration between iconic British based DJ Gilles Peterson and Jean-Paul Maunick aka Bluey who was once in jazz funk groovers Incognito. They were inspired by 80s Brit Funk bands such as Central Line and Atmosfear. Brit Funk is a jazz-funk fusion loaded up with disco, drum machines, slap bass and a little reggae. Brand New Heavies and Jamiroquai dabbled in it too. On Suite Grooves we thought it sounded quite like Khurangbin. STR4TASFEAR is their second full-length album. They’re joined by keyboardist Peter Hinds (from Atmosfear), British singer Omar and Rob Gallagher formerly with Acid Jazz group Galliano.
Suite Grooves picks are the frantic keys of City Sounds and Why Must You Fly which mysteriously features Omar on lead synthesizer - he doesn't sing a note!

Suite Grooves Feature Album

Inkswel - Follow The Stars

Inkswel is an Adelaide based DJ and producer who started out in the Adelaide Hip Hop scene. After jaunts in London, Amsterdam and Berlin during the 2000's he's now a prolific producer with multiple albums out on multiple labels including his own label Inner Tribe Records. He calls himself a "Purveyor of all things soulful" on Bandcamp and that's exactly what you can find on his latest album ‘Follow The Stars’. Lots of collaborations with vocal duties ranging from hip hop to funk. On 'You & Me' - Wallace and Jsoul cook up killer beats with dreamy vocals. Jeswon from Australian hip hop crew Thundamentals drops rhymes on the 'Crew'. Both Tableek and Moniquea are smooth and catchy on their tracks. (Words Stu Connolly)

Suite Grooves Feature Album

Close Counters - Soulacoasta II

Close Encounters is Melbourne based duo Allan McConnell and Finn Rees who developed their sound following an European trip where they went crate digging for rare groove records. On their releases they fuse electronic, hip hop, disco and soul. This is their second album following on from the first Soulacoasta in 2018. They describe their album as a “14-track expedition through all kinds of dance music… house, soul, broken beat and beyond.”
‘Snap To It’ is a chugging laidback disco groove while Flashback takes us back to a ‘90s Nu Groove NYC house tune. Close Encounters will be playing in Sydney for Vivid in June. They have played at events including Falls Festival, MONA FOMA and Party In The Paddock. (Words Stu Connolly)
