MSM: What emotions went through your mind when you officially became Saint Lucia’s first Six Star World Marathon Major finisher?
•
Ava: “It is quite a surreal feeling and a strange thing to experience especially when I have been preparing for it for some time. Making my way up Hereford then Boylston in the Boston Marathon was a daydream. I knew I was the only St. Lucian woman in that race, running for that medal, so there was no pressure but I felt this conviction running those last miles and assuring myself that there was nothing in my way getting to that finish line.”

For Ravenell, becoming a Six Star finisher represented far more than completing six races. “Validation and completion,” he says. “It’s really hard to get to and through them all. Running is one of those things I’m able to start and finish through discipline and consistency. A goal that sounds impossible can become real if you just keep moving.” Only after receiving his sixth star did the magnitude of the accomplishment fully sink in.

“It wasn’t until after I received my sixth star that I realized just how rare it is. I’m humbled and grateful.”

Holloway remains most grateful for one simple decision: he never stopped running. Through professional challenges, personal loss, injuries, and setbacks, he continued showing up. That consistency became the foundation upon which every achievement was built. His Six Star medal stands as a remarkable accomplishment, but perhaps the greater victory is the perspective gained along the way. The journey reinforced his belief that some of the best days are still ahead. It also strengthened his conviction that extraordinary goals are achieved not through singular moments of greatness, but through countless small efforts repeated over time.

Earning the Six Star Medal carries deep meaning for Lloyd. Personally, it represents the fulfillment of a bold goal she set for herself later in life. She challenged herself to complete all six majors before turning 50, giving herself five years to accomplish it. Remarkably, she achieved the feat in just two years. For her family, the accomplishment is equally special. Her children love seeing the medals and races, and hearing them express pride in her achievements is one of the most rewarding parts of the journey.

When asked what drives her most today—winning, impact, or legacy—her answer is simple: all three. Success begins with gratitude and perspective. “I win at life every day that I wake up,” she says, reflecting a mindset rooted in purpose and appreciation.

Receiving the Six Star Medal represented far more than completing six of the world’s most prestigious marathons—it symbolized resilience. For Bernarda, the medal serves as a reminder of the challenges she overcame both on and off the course, including personal loss, family responsibilities, and the demands of a high-profile legal career.

Ask many runners what keeps them going through years of marathon training and you’ll often hear words like inspiration, passion, or determination. Richard’s answer is simpler.

“Discipline.”

That single word has served as the foundation of his running journey. While motivation can come and go, discipline remains constant. It is what gets runners out the door before sunrise. It is what keeps them training through difficult weather, long workdays, and personal challenges. For Rich, discipline became the engine that powered him through the years-long pursuit of all six majors. Even now, after reaching Six Star status, his mindset remains unchanged. When training becomes difficult, he reminds himself that every effort is an investment in the future version of himself.
