My reminders tell me it's been 6 years since the final Night Goat EP Burning Bridges To Light The Way.
A prophetic work for the band. Unlike the previous 2 EPs this one didn't get a vinyl release due to that whole pandemic thing...

Playing some of the more obscure albums in mt collection this afternoon.

Rapeman - Budd
Terribly named short lived post Big Black project from Steve Albini, and Sims from Scratch Acid. EP was recorded live. Can definitely hear the beginnings of Shellac in this.

Doomriders - Darkness Comes Alive
Features Nate Newton from all 478 of your favourite produced bands.
Not as good as

Pyramids/Horseback - A Throne Without A King
Around the time of Earth releasing The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull I was obsessed with chilled out Drone music. I found Horseback's Invisible Mountain album and loved the kraut rock meets Black Metal vocals and repetitive nature of it. Forgot about Horseback for many many years, then found this collab album with artist Pyramids. This is much weirder.

- Mantra
Naarm based band that are probably better than any band you know. This EP is an emotional explosion of Blackened grindcore noise.

Re-interpreted themes from horror franchises

Akira Yamaoka's melancholic old-meets-new style theme from the Silent Hill video game gets reworked into a metal knuckle-dragging industrial piece, that could appropriately play alongside one of the series' villainous horrific monstrosities.

"Come To Me", from 1985 vampire film Fright Night, takes the dreamy synth and sax-lead song and moves it into more glitching electronic territory, while retaining the hypnotic repeating feel of the original's hooks.

The Shining theme, sometimes referred to as Dies Irae, is perhaps one of the most ominous pieces of music used in a film. In this version, the melody is slowed down to a crawl, and the atmospheric drone replaced by crushing guitar feedback to drive home the feel of isolation.

It's Bandcamp Friday!

Horror themes are uniquely reinterpreted in the eleventh EP by Australian experimental artist Cell Temple.
