The icon singer Owen Gray has just passed away … 😔

2024 - ILY SENSIMILLA (feat. Pressure Busspipe)

Ah where, I'll phone ya
And out deh international farmer

I've got a stalk of Sinsemilla
Growing in my backyard
I've got a stalk of Sinsemilla
Growing in my backyard

Don't cut down the collie tree
'Cause it makes the best tea for me
I've seen doctor say, it gives naturally
One thing this doctor will need
A lot of food
To survive and go through in Babylon

Yes, I've walked the streets and seen children downtown
Begging everyone they see, and it hurt me
It can't be right for what this world do for the youth
And the little herb I'm selling, they want to capture me

I and I don't cherish wickedness
Because it's none profit to I and I

I've got the stalk of Sinsemilla
Growing in my backyard, oh
I've the stalk of Sinsemilla
Growing in my

Anything that is none profit
I and I don't take for it
Pass it, pass it
All over I and I

There is a red house over yonder
Full of ma*****na
I've been sitting on the corner
Chatting up with the farmer

I’ve got a stalk of Sinsemilla
Growing in my backyard
I've got a stalk of Sinsemilla
Growing in my backyard

Free the herb, free the herb

I'm extremely sad to hear that Garth White, one of the very best chroniclers of Jamaican popular music - someone who lived it from the inside - has passed aged 77. His work precedes and informs most of the writing about reggae today and should be much better known internationally. He was precise and evocative in his accounts of the musical culture of his homeland. I also found him to be humble and funny and he was generous with his time when I met him some years ago in Jamaica. Many scholars, musicians, and fans of Jamaican music will mourn his passing. RIP Garth.

Kingston, 6 September 2024 – The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, has said that she’s deeply saddened by the passing of the musicologist and author, Garth White. Minister Grange said Mr White was “like an encyclopaedia that I could always cons...

Here's a Jamaican(?) documentary about Bob Marley's life, a good few years old now but still worth a look with many fascinating interviews. It's one of the few docos about Jamaican music that includes the great Jamaican musicologist and writer, Garth White.
