Make no mistake about it—we’re all affected by identity. It’s just that for the majority of us, it happens without our awareness. There may be identities you’re unconsciously living into that are getting in the way of the very thing you’re trying to achieve. Thank you to Sally Guthrie - The Freedom Connection for sharing with us how we can use the hidden power of identity.

It was time to stop boxing myself into ‘only’ reiki practitioner, because what I do encompasses so much more. Last year I worked with a business coach to help me figure it out.

During that time I heard this quote twice, “Persistence without insight will lead to the same outcome.” (Book of Boba Fett, Ep 5, Disney Plus)

It encouraged me to keep going, because the process of articulating something that was kind of intangible with such a wide range of varying results into just a few words was painful and frustrating.

It was worth it, though, to come out the other side with the insight I required to move forward with clarity.

The insight is that ‘Emotional Health Facilitator’ is the most accurate description of what I do.

Over the last 20 years or so, there’s been a growing focus on mental health—creating awareness and education around it. De-stigmatising it. Where we were with mental health 20-30 years ago, is where we are today with emotional health.

Emotional health is the next frontier. I believe it’s the missing link in health, wellness, and enhanced performance.

Whilst there are a lot of people who already know this, it’s not mainstream yet. With time, it will be. Because think about it …

If you’ve been persisting with an area of your health or wellness (like sleep for example), and getting the same outcome (ie. not sleeping well), you can apply the wisdom of persistence without insight leading to the same outcome. So what’s the insight? Experience tells me the answer could very well lie in your emotional health.

The question of life purpose speaks to the spiritual aspect of our lives. Having learned from Spirit for over 60 years, Roz Lawler shares her unique insights to offer a very expansive look at purpose. Learn why we have more than one; how our purposes change and grow as we change and grow; and how to align more and more with our purpose, rather than how to find it.

Have you ever had a that thought or an idea to do something, to start something, to change something, or to try something—it keeps coming up again, and again; it keeps tapping you on the shoulder, again and again. But then you find yourself a few weeks, a few months, or a few years down the track, and you still haven’t done it, or even started. It’s just been a thought in your mind.

If so, then, there’s a chance that it’s a lack of self-worth that’s been holding you back. And, it can often happen unconsciously.

This conversation with Angela Raspass, in the latest podcast episode, has the potential to bring awareness to an area of your life you may be lacking self-worth in, so that you can make more conscious decisions in your life.

As Carl Jung said, “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”

I love hearing other people’s stories. No surface chit chat, small talk, or BS. Just the real stuff. Like when you ask someone, “How are you?” and they actually tell you the truth.

That’s what happens in the reiki groups I run. People tell me the truth because they can see I actually want to hear it, and so does the rest of the group.

Join me in a group for some real talk and remote reiki, and genuine connection.

Some people say they feel like I’m in the room with them! You can make an appointment at https://dianaedwards.com.au/

This August marks 20 years of sobriety for me. I kept getting the feeling that it would be good to pause and acknowledge it in some way, and I’m glad I did. Because on reflection, I realised I can trust myself, and that’s a big deal for me. I had spent most of my life not trusting myself. It had caused me to question almost every decision I ever made. It made me live from the head, instead of the heart. It took me out of the flow of Life.

This video is from the first podcast episode I did with Roz Lawler. It was the first time I ever told her the impact her session had on me. She’s the reason I got sober in the first place, when I didn’t even know it was something I wanted to do. It was the session with Roz that kickstarted the sobriety, and then it was my decision to keep it going. The fact that I was able to do that for myself, showed me that I can trust myself.

As I had that insight, I felt something settle in me, like I was more at home in my body. So yeah, I really did get something out of pausing to acknowledge how far I’ve come.

I found this quote today, that I’d typed up and stuck in the front cover of a journal that I haven’t used for about 5 years. “When purpose and faith align, there can be no failure,” by Rich Roll in his book, ‘Finding Ultra’.

When I originally read it, I took it to mean having faith in a higher power. Today when I read it again all this time later, I saw something new. I saw it as having faith in myself. And as I thought about it some more, I saw it as both; faith in myself AND faith in a higher power.

Faith in myself that I am capable. And faith in a higher power that co-creates with me. It’s been my experience, over and over again, that when I take steps towards creating something good, the Universe meets me. When I do my part, the Universe can do its part.

Rich Roll, I’m not sure how you intended these words. I tried to find it in the book again to read it in context, but I hadn’t underlined it, so it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I guess at the end of the day, what matters is how the reader receives it. Thank you for the inspiration.

For the month of August I’m offering FREE ‘Online Group Reiki’. There are 3 people in each group. We connect on zoom and start by checking in with each person; I send 30 minutes of reiki; then we check back in afterwards. We also tend to hang around for a chat afterwards for about 30 minutes!

There are 2 groups left with a couple of spots each. You’re most welcome to join us! There’s no catch. I started doing groups during this lockdown as an experiment, and have enjoyed it so much that I thought I’d do it for the month as a way to offer support. I have a belief that the more people who understand the science of positive emotion, the more our society can change for the better — particularly work culture. It stems from my own experience of learning this information, and how much of a mindset shift it catalysed in me.

This idea that our positive feelings have no purpose, other than to momentarily feel good, is outdated. 30 years of research tells us that feeling good is good for us psychologically, intellectually, physically, and socially.

And the more we truly get this, the more we’ll be able to change the way we live and work. The way we’ve been doing it is unsustainable. People have been burning out for years. I believe the change to a more sustainable and enjoyable way of living and working can start by understanding the science, because we tend to believe the science.

This podcast episode is my (small) way of contributing to that conversation, with the hope that it will at least plant the seeds of a mindset shift. It’s not strictly in the context of work (although it does come up and it’s all relevant), however, it’s a beginning to understanding the science.

Thank you Sue Langley for sharing your expertise in positive psychology, neuroscience and emotional intelligence. What I’m even more grateful for is the way you shared your experience and wisdom, that helped me understand more fully what it means to flourish.

Sue and I talk about the science of positive emotions and how they benefit us, the brain, creativity, insight, resilience and post traumatic growth.

One good thing that's come out of this lockdown are my evening walks with the puppy. It's my favourite time to get out for a walk because I get to see beautiful sunsets, like this one tonight.

If someone told you they weren’t OK, would you know how to respond? Would you know what to do? In this episode of ’Deep & Meaningfuls with Di’, Ben Higgs from Rise Foundation Australia tells us about the ’Mental Health First Responder’ workshop, what it’s like for him living with bipolar depression and how he and his wife handle the rougher times.

Like a lot of people, speaking in public had terrified me. Even so, I still felt a pull to do it. There was a public speaking group I had wanted to go to for years, and the day I finally booked myself to go I got a sore throat. I knew it was psychosomatic — me holding myself back — so I went anyway. As the evening started, I had a coughing fit and had to take myself outside. I knew I was going to stay and go through with the evening no matter what, so eventually my body got the message and the sore throat miraculously disappeared.

That was a few years ago now, and I’ve come a long way since then to be able to start this podcast. I’ve been going through the discomfort of putting myself out there because the desire to share something that might help someone else is stronger.

The first episode is a DnM with Roz Lawler and is available now on my website. Roz has been the biggest influence and teacher in my life for 20 years now, so it was a no brainer that she’d be the first guest. She’s one of those people that I shudder to think what my life would be like if I hadn’t met her all those years ago, which is why I got all choked up within the first 10 minutes! I think Roz is a best kept secret, and I’m excited to introduce more people to her.

When I offered to share reiki at the Jungle Brothers Strength & Movement Christmas Camping Weekend, I had no idea how much interest there’d be. I felt like I was going to be putting on a party that maybe one or two people would show up to. What ended up happening was the exact opposite. There were so many people who put their hand up to have reiki that I was unable to fit everyone in, even with doing back-to-back sessions for hours over 2 days. In all honesty, leading up to it, there’d been a level of background anxiety because I was about to share a part of myself in a completely different environment, and had no idea how it would be received. Would they love it? Or would they think I was just weird? After doing 23 sessions and receiving only positive feedback, I think I can safely say it was a success. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have been able to share reiki with so many first timers, which was another step in my mission of raising awareness around reiki and ultimately making it mainstream.

This very cool bathroom is where I did the sessions.

P.S. I’m around during the holidays and available for reiki sessions. If you’re not going away, it could be something you can do to help you unwind from a big year.
