Just found these pics from when Professor Groove and the B***y Affair played an amazing gig at a pop up "Becks Bar" set up on College St for the Sydney Festival back in 2006. We did a Blaxploitation themed show, playing tracks from movies like Superfly, Shaft, Across 110th St and Trouble Man, and put together an incredible band with players like Francesco Di Michelino, Doug Williams, Jerome Smith, Calvin Welch, David Weir and Robert Woolf involved. It was a bit risqué - we dressed up 3 mannequins as "ladies of the night" and The Prof "re-enacted" and freestyled some of the movie scenes with some saucy dialogue typical of the street talk of the early 70's. It was pretty radical and sounded incredible. Needless to say a show like this wouldn't be politically correct today and would trigger huge swathes of the population.... people were drinking some beer from actual bottles, dancing and having a really great unsupervised time with minimal security and police presence, something Sydney Festival or Vivid Sydney etc wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but at the time it was a huge sold out success with about 1500 people enjoying the timeless funk of Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, Bobby Womack etc. I think the The Bamboos might have played first early in their career and were fantastic.

‘Chance’ by remix by out today !

Presenting seemingly out of nowhere, a collaboration only the astute observer may have predicted. Back in 2018 Jimmy and Mel happened upon a chance encounter in a studio in Toorak and have since been fervent admirers of their respective works. Moody Beach’s standout track ‘Chance’ now receives the Jimmy Cass’ hypnagogic re-work he always wanted to hear, six years later.
Evoking nostalgic themes as always, the ‘Chance - Jimmy Cass Remix” echoes sentiments shared by Mel about the original in her 2021 interview, “It’s an ode to nostalgia. It’s a nod to those yearning for the past while looking to the future. Warmth and sadness, to me, are both associated with nostalgia, a complicated and enticing emotion.”
