New video // Story of my ride

There was a loose plan: use the tailwind... go for a ride, and get a train back to the city. “Aim south!” So said the windsock. And so I did.
On familiar territory - from Sydney, through to Wollongong... and then beyond to Shellharbour via the (curious) bike path network leading to Port Kembla and beyond (ie. Kiama, etc).
It was a most enjoyable day-trip on the bike. Sydney to Shellharbour... as I saw it. I hope you enjoy my ride was much as I did.

TDF 2025 // Stage 18: 1st Ben O’Connor (AUS) Jayco-AlUla!

“It’s pretty rare for Team Jayco-AlUla to go to the Tour without a stage win, so we had to do that,” said Ben O’Connor after stage 18 of his fourth Tour de France. “To do it on the Queen stage is a big thing.”
It is O’Connor’s second stage win at the Tour (following his efforts from stage nine in 2021 when he went on to finish fourth on GC). With three stages remaining, the 29-year-old is now in 10th place overall.
“I was on a good one but really to be honest this goes out to everyone who supports myself, the team… and it is for all the loyal Australian supporters in general.”

Bravo Ben! Love your work.

This is Louise Padgett. She lists her injuries from a crash while riding her bike with the Australian National Team.
Today is the 20th anniversary of that crash.
Louise is an inspiration. She is a survivor.

Remembering the ramifications – 20 Years since a life-changing crash

Today is the 20th anniversary of a crash in Germany that claimed the life of Amy Gillett. It also dramatically changed the lives of the others who were part of a training ride that ended in tragedy.

Before the 10th anniversary of this terrible incident, I did three interviews with the survivors...: Louise Padgett (née Yaxley), Alexis Rhodes and Katie Brown.

It is a reminder of how quickly things can change because of a momentary lapse in concentration while in charge of a vehicle.

It was a crash, a horrific one that claimed the life of Amy Gillett. A car on the wrong side of the road did the damage. A group of women was decimated. This July it will be 10 years since that accident, that moment when Stef Magner’s momentary lapse took a big toll. Most Australians […]

// Stage 10 // Healy in yellow!

Out of the quicksand and into yellow in style.
(Apologies to the new leader of the Tour de France for my description of his riding style in the Australian 'Tour Guide'. It has been a joy to watch Ben Healy in action. And I reiterate another point I raised about him in the race preview: "He wants a result – and he wants it now!" Impatience, evidently, has its rewards.)

Gigante wins at Giro d’Italia, up to 3rd on GC after stage four

An attack in the closing kilometres of stage four of the women’s Giro d’Italia has put Sarah Gigante back on top of the podium for the first time in 542 days…
“It was a very emotional day,” said Gigante after winning in Pianezze. “I felt good and was looking for a strong result, so I decided to take some risks. During the final kilometre, when I was alone in the lead, I kept looking back because I couldn’t believe what was happening… I’ve gone through some very tough times, but now I can finally say it: I’m back!”
