The Frogs, now showing at the New Theatre in Sydney

The world is on fire, people are dying. There’s war and plague. And cuts to arts funding. It’ll take a bloody miracle to save humanity! Dionysus, the god of theatre, teams up with his trusty sidekick Xanthias on an odyssey to the Underworld, hoping to resurrect a dead playwright to save the world of the living. On the road to hell, however, they meet a colony of frogs, not only seemingly happy about the chaos above, but singing show tunes to celebrate. It would be funny if it wasn’t so damn sad. Cluster Arts Global in association with Breaking the Castle Productions is pleased to announce Sydney tour dates for writer and performer Peter Cook’s award winning, compelling and uplifting one-man play, Breaking the Castle, a brutally honest and unexpectedly funny journey through addiction, loss, and recovery. What makes this production truly remarkable is it’s based on Cook’s own life. At the height of his mental health crisis and addiction to methamphetamine, Cook was homeless, hopeless, and spiralling fast, his addiction ultimately leading him to a psychiatric ward. The show will play at The Studio at The Sydney Opera House from July 23 to July 26. For more info visit: https://www.onlythegoodnews.com.au/breaking-the-castle/

The BB Players presented an evening of staged readings with the expert guidance of renowned director/producer Moira Blumenthal, who asked the audience to suspend their disbelief. This state of mind allowed everyone to meet the biblical Abraham and Sarah as they hotly debated the pros and cons of blindly following G-d's commands (without discussing it with your wife first) in James Sherman's play Sarah Sarah. Alternatively, Glory Days, by playwright Graham Yates, revealed that teamwork can be the best medicine, and his Sisters piece confirmed that love of family conquers all. St. Petersburg by Carol Dance let the audience experience a snippet of the Russian Revolution within the confides of a prison cell. And finally, a reading of Shakespeare's The Seven Ages of Man brought people to tears. Guests were treated to memorable performances, a huge bravo goes out to Len Mahemoff, Val Davis, Denise Archie, Shimon Parker, Evie Weltinger, Dianne Kuchar, Margaret Spinak and Judy Seligmann.

The New Theatre presents Dangerous Liaisons and it’s not to be missed.
For decades, the sharp-tongued Marquess de Merteuil and rakish Viscount de Valmont have delighted in emotional manipulation and psychological warfare, with seemingly no regard for those who get swept up in their games. However, their recent simple wager breaks the rules, and the Marquess changes the game entirely. Click the link to read on: https://www.onlythegoodnews.com.au/dangerous-liaisons/

The New Theatre presents the highly entertaining In the Next Room, or the Vi****or Play. I haven’t laughed so hard in ages and was mightily impressed by the actors’ performances – all were top notch. In the North American spa town of Saratoga Springs, shortly after the end of the Civil War and at the dawn of electricity, trailblazing local GP Dr Givings specializes in gynaecological disorders. His treatment of women suffering from ‘hysteria’ involves a revolutionary new ‘massage device’ that produces a ‘paroxysm’. I recommend booking a ticket if you wish to experience a delightful romp, one that ensures laughter in spades. For more info click: https://www.onlythegoodnews.com.au/in-the-next-room/
