National Reconciliation Week takes place this week, from 27 May to 3 June!
This year’s theme for is 'All In,' and it explores what it means to move beyond passive support and commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation through truth-telling, education and collective action.
The theme reminds us that reconciliation and advancing the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is not passive work, nor is it the responsibility of First Nations peoples alone—who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and advocating for change for far too long.
Through the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office (NATSIMO) and Alyelhentye Nawu, our specialised ICIP team, we embed Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property principles across artist development, industry partnerships, funding, showcases and international opportunities. We are continually working towards better practice by centring cultural authority, upholding protocols, and strengthening engagement with First Nations music, language and knowledge systems.
By aligning our operational, creative and policy work, APRA AMCOS is committed to progressing the recognition of ICIP rights, supporting self-determination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creators, and contributing to a music industry that respects and responsibly engages with the cultural foundations of First Nations song.
Across the country this week, communities will come together through film screenings, concerts, festivals, workshops and conversations that create opportunities to listen, learn, share culture and deepen understanding.
