It's Friday arvo and I can't stay silent on this one.

The latest list of top creative directors sparked outrage this week as reported by , out of 30 creative directors, only one woman made the cut—and the backlash has been fierce and justified.

As an advocate for gender equity, the founder of the Diversity & Inclusion platform IMPACTER, and the wife of a former creative director at one of the big ad agencies, I must speak up.

The time for change is NOW. And it takes more than words or social distancing to fix this—it requires real action.

So, what can people in adland do today?
👉 Speak Up: If you’re in a leadership role, publicly advocate for change. Silence equals complicity.
👉 Partner with Experts: Work with organisations like Financy to implement DEI strategies that actually make a difference. It’s time for measurable impact, not just promises.
👉 Challenge the Status Quo: Call out toxic behaviour when you see it. Allyship means action, even when it’s uncomfortable.
👉 Support Visibility of Women: Gender equity and inclusion means providing fair support structures that give everyone a chance to be seen and celebrated to the benefit the whole industry. Make sure your actions reflect that.

At Financy, we specialize in DEI and communications strategies that foster a healthier, more innovative workplace. Want to enhance your team’s well-being and collaboration? Let’s chat about creating a culture where both innovation and well-being thrive.

🚨 A Big Communications NO-NO!

Financy CEO Bianca Hartge-Hazelman, a social impact communications adviser to corporates, calls out a major issue in the super fund sector. It’s a big misstep for super funds to pressure companies they invest in to close their gender pay gaps when their own leadership ranks tell a different story.

As highlighted in a recent analysis by the The Australian Financial Review, only 2 of the top 10 highest-paid executives across Australia’s 8 most powerful industry super funds are women, despite these funds pushing for gender diversity in their investee companies. Across the board of super fund executives, women also only accounted for 14.8% of total pay and 11.5% of short-term bonuses.

It’s time for these funds to lead by example, because true gender equity starts from within. 💬

🚨 New Financy Women’s Index Report Out Today: Gender Norms Continue to Hold Back Progress Despite Gold in Paris, Pay Gap Narrowing and Employment Participation at record high.

📉 The quarterly Index, which measures timeframes to economic equality in Australia and is free to download at Financy.com.au - dipped to 77.5 points, highlighting that outdated gender norms are still preventing women from fully benefiting from economic gains.

Key Findings:
Gender Pay Gap hit a record low of 11.5%, boosting the pay gap sub-index 🚀
But...Employment Outcomes for women remain a challenge, with the Underemployment Rate for women increasing and widening the gender gap and monthly hours worked in decline. 📊

While women are excelling in areas like sport and leadership, as seen in the Paris Olympics, it’s clear that deeper societal changes are needed to shift entrenched norms. As business conditions weaken, flexible jobs—often held by women—are the first to face cuts, impacting financial security.

Let’s challenge the status quo and push for greater gender equality in all sectors! 💪

The March qtr Financy Women's Index is out, showing that progress to economic equality rebounds from worst year in a decade and amid spike in rising gender based-violence.

Among the key findings:
💡Progress to gender equality recovered in the March quarter of 2024 with the FWX increasing by 2 points to 78.3 points, compared to 76.2 points in the December quarter 2023.
💡The Index is now 3.66 points higher than where it stood in March 2023.
💡The result suggests a rebound in economic equality outcomes after 2023 became the worst performing year in a decade for women’s financial progress.
💡The key drivers of progress were improvements in Employment, as measured by monthly hours worked and a narrowing of the gender gap in the Underemployment Rate.
💡Despite the gains in early 2024, progress has been undermined by a spike in gender-based violence in Australia and this Index explores this.
💡Timeframes to gender equality include a best case 5.6 years for ASX 200 Board Leadership, 17.7 years in Superannuation, 19.9 years in Underemployment, 23.3 years in the Gender Pay Gap (as the median timeframe to gender equality) and 25.6 years in Employment, 45.5 years in Unpaid Work and 389.2 years in Education.

The 2024 Federal Budget has certainly delivered some hits in an uncertain economic environment, but there is no getting away from it, more could have been done to have addresses the underlying issues driving a national crisis on domestic violence. Without a greater focus on this, we are at risk of derailing the gains being made on gender equality as fear destroys progress.

Financy welcomes news of superannuation payments on government paid parental leave but questions, why wait to an election year?

The news is fantastic. But the concern is the wait to 2025, which takes us to an election year, and we already know that past Liberal Governments have not supported the move to pay super on government-funded paid parental leave, and that this Labor Government has already benched the proposal once before.
