The epitome of smooth 1800 Cristalino is a crystal clear anejo tequila with deceptive depth, aged in both American and French oak and finished in port wine casks for an additional six months. Online today: Reserva de la Familia is steeped in history. Aged underground in the family cellar and bottled in hand-blown glass adorned with hand-applied labels, the tequila reflects generations of craftsmanship. It is made from fully shaved agave, slowly steamed in traditional masonry ovens for up to 52 hours, yielding a thick, syrupy spirit with honeyed depth, often described as a warm embrace.

From the Prestige Tequila discussion earlier in the year, Gina Barbachano commented “It’s a tequila that makes you nostalgic, even if you didn’t grow up with it”.

Loy Catada introduced Reserva de la Familia Platino, the unaged expression and a single-estate lowlands tequila presented in its purest form. Smooth yet expressive, it carries subtle earthiness alongside vegetal and spice-driven notes.

Reserva de la Familia was originally created to mark the 200th anniversary of the world’s oldest tequila house, serving as a tribute to José Cuervo himself. Before its release, Catada explained, these reserves were a closely guarded family secret, stored deep within the Cuervo family’s private cellar beneath the La Rojeña distillery in Tequila. The release also introduced the world’s first Extra Añejo tequila.

The room reacted with a collective sense of surprise at the spirit’s powerful aroma.

“There’s no hiding with a white tequila,” Catada said. “It’s unaged and unadulterated. When I want to experience a high-quality tequila in its purest state, this is it. This is agave.”

Alex Boon echoed the sentiment, noting that blanco tequilas represent the youngest and most transparent expression of a tequila house.

“Whatever care goes into the soil, whatever attention is given during production, you can’t disguise it,” he said. “This is tequila in its rawest form.”
