Workers in the mining sector recorded the highest median employment income in Australia, while those in accommodation and food services earned the lowest at $22,270, according to new ABS data.
The figures, based on 2022–23 incomes, also show electricity, gas, water and waste services had the second-highest median at $105,158, and arts and recreation services at $37,057.
Total personal pre-tax income reached $1.3 trillion for the year, and while wages remain the main income source for most Australians, investment income is rising, with almost 12% of the population now receiving it.
