This is a great reminder of the importance to see happiness in the present. Live in the moment, cherish what you have and happiness will be there.

It’s equally important to enjoy the steps of the journey as it is to reach the destination

Why get a coach?

Having a coach is widely accepted in the Sports industry, whether team or individuals, to advance from amateur to professional and rise to reach our personal best at every performance stage.

However many of us strive to reach our personal best and live a life of fulfilment but don’t seek a coach to support this quest and personal development. We try and find the answers on our own, working harder, longer and pushing further away from what we had originally set out to achieve.

A coach will help you invest time and energy in areas of priority and focus on the critical few with a defined plan. They will be with you every step of the way supporting your development and guiding you to the greatness you deserve at every stage.

Expressions For Life offers affordable Coaching Programs from experienced Coaches with flexible payment options. If you would like to learn more, drop is a message or call direct, there’s no obligation and no risk to find out more.

It can be tempting to be allured into destination addiction, or the idea that once we have achieved one more thing, or have a new relationship, or are handed some degree of success, life will change and we will feel better.

The reality is that life unfolds from the inside out, and that we don't change when our circumstances do, our circumstances change when we do.

The fear of failure doesn't make you more successful, it severely holds you back. It makes you unwilling to take chances, leave situations that you don't want to be in, or change your circumstances. Failure isn't a finality, it's a learning opportunity.

It is your life telling you what is and isn't working. Honoring it and adjusting accordingly is essential to thrive.

Motivation isn't something you wait for, it's something you build.

Passion might have told you what you want to do in life, but it isn't going to be the thing that propels you through late nights of work and difficult days that make you just want to quit.

To become a high achieving person, you need principles and you need habits. What we feel strongly about does not ultimately define our lives – what we do every day does.

Building something lasting and meaningful won't happen overnight, and you should stop expecting it to. Real change happens gradually, and one habit at a time.

Rather than trying to exert enough willpower to change something 100%, focus on how you can do 1% better each day, and over time, the effort will compound.

If someone offers you advice on how to change a problem that you've been complaining about for a while, do you consider it, or do you respond with an excuse as to why they don't understand, why it won't work, or why you are ultimately helpless?

If so, consider why you are defending your problems more than you are your potential. This is a symptom of learned helplessness.

14/04/2018

Learned helplessness is when people have faced so many challenges in their lives that they begin to believe they are powerless in the face of their external circumstances, and therefore, they just stop trying to change them.

Re-learning that you are in control of more of your life than you're not is imperative to moving it forward.

It's okay to want to explain why you aren't where you want to be. But you also have to realize that justifying it won't get you there any faster.

In life, you either do or you don't. You either waste time placating yourself into stagnancy, or you get honest about where you are and make change.

The validity of your excuses only serves to make you temporarily feel better about why you aren't doing what you know you want and need to be.

Your backstory will not define your life. Your current circumstances will not define your life. The only thing that defines your life is what you choose to do in response to them.

Everyone has a story of struggle to share – some people define themselves by it, others act in spite of it. Your past will only be your future if you carry it there.

Real success is a holistic thing, and it isn't going to happen when you feel like crap all the time.

It's unrealistic to assume you'll never have a glass of wine again, so rather than trying to eliminate everything that isn't perfectly healthy for you, identify your worst habits and work on those while allowing yourself other vices here and there.

It's not about achieving perfection, it's just about facilitating your health so that you can get out of your own way.

11/04/2018

Your anger? It's telling you where you feel powerless. Your anxiety? It's telling you that something in your life is off balance. Your fear? It's telling you what you care about. Your apathy? It's telling you where you're overextended and burnt out.

Your feelings aren't random, they are messengers. And if you want to get anywhere, you need to be able to let them speak to you, and tell you what you really need.

We are now well under way with 2018! After the enjoyment that year end, the festive season, holidays and a slowed work load brings, it is probably about now we are starting to see the return of hectic workloads both personally and professionally. This often leads to an increase in stress levels and being left feeling emotional and mental pressure.

While we all feel and deal with stress different here’s a few tips for managing stress and restoring some normality back into your day:

• Acknowledge and accept the feeling of being overwhelmed - it may not feel good what your experiencing but fighting it just makes us more stressed and emotional. By recognising and accepting the stressed feeling you can calm your emotional thinking and use your rational thinking part of your brain.

• Slow down - slow everything down (try the 20% rule). By slowing down physically it also gives your brain the chance to think and come up with ways to manage the stress, but also just makes you feel less stressed by reducing your pace.

• Get some breathing space - you can do this anywhere and any time. By taking 2-3 minutes away from what you’re doing and focusing on your breathing can help you calm down, collect and clarify your thoughts.

• Prioritise - when we have things planned and the steps clearly thought out, it’s easier to move through the tasks and each step maintaining a steady pace. You can also tell yourself “I have a plan, I can manage this” when stress may start to creep in

• Give yourself more time - reduce your commitments and give each commitment more time. Keep some time between activities and tasks rather than planning things close together. If you think a task will take 30 minutes, allow 45 minutes so you can move through at a comfortable pace and not feel stressed if delays occur.

Hope you find these tips helpful across your week.

I wake up at 6am.

I stretch and drink a glass of lemon water.

I read for half an hour, then get in a 20-minute workout.

I take a cold shower, drink a protein shake and brush my teeth.

On my way to work, I listen to a podcast.

In the office, I dig deep into my creative flow.

I get tons of work done and reach my goals.

On the way back home, I call my dad and do groceries.

I make myself a healthy meal, then work out.

I spend much needed time with the family, bath the kids, read them a bedtime story and tuck them in with a goodnight kiss.

I prepare for the next day, unwind a little before I turn the lights off and fall asleep with a big smile on my face.

I couldn't have done more. I gave my all.

I feel amazing, on top of the world.

A perfect day.

This is a common day, but not every day.

On some days, I wake up at 7am

I don't work out, my shower is hot, my podcast is music, social media interrupts my flow and I don't get all of my work done.

I eat less healthy and watch TV.

But I still sleep like a baby.

It's okay to not always have perfect days. It's okay to not always be on top of Motivation Mountain.

We tend to think of motivation as a tireless source of driving intrinsic energy and we get confused when we lose it, when we feel unmotivated.

But motivation is not a sprint, it's a marathon.

It's not giving up on trying to have perfect days.

Five Strategies for improving your general wellbeing and even helps keep your physical health on track

Strategy #1 – Sleep is king. It's it the most effective and underrated regeneration system. I have made it a practice to set an alarm to go to bed… What happened? I am happier, healthier and more effective in all aspects of my life.

Strategy #2 – Apply the 5 x 5 rule “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with” AND the average of your five most common habits, the five most eaten foods, the five most common thoughts, etc. Simply raise your average.

Strategy #3 – Be grateful and show appreciation. Not only does anxiety and depression lead a poor mental and emotional state, it also leads to bad food choices. If you are feeling anxious, you are more likely to choose chocolate, chips, cookies over a more healthier option like fruit, yogurt or vegetables. Plus being grateful reduces cortisol, which helps with insulin sensitivity and reduces weight gain.

Strategy #4 – Never eat alone (or “eat with people, not screens”). Some of you right now are chomping mindlessly as you read this. Come back later to read these lines. Whenever possible, eat with friends because it improves digestion, and builds relationships.

Strategy #5 – Make appointments for yourself and keep them. Being consistent pays off. I travel all over the country, yet I don’t miss workouts. If you take care of your support systems, proper dietary choices are easy to make and you can stay healthy at any age.
