Came across this mob of kangaroos and Joeys still in their winter coats while visiting the old Orroral tracking station site south of Canberra.

It’s funny watching the Joeys crawl in and out of their mother’s pouch.

“One small step for man, one giant step for mankind” is a phrase I’m sure you’ve heard before and Honeysuckle Creek tracking station south of the Australian capital was at the time involved tracking the Apollo lunar module in the surface.

Also known as ‘Tracking Station 44 Canberra’ it operated from 1967 to 1981 when it was decommissioned.

In 1984 the area was declared a part of the newly formed Namadgi National Park and in 1992 on the anniversary of the original moon landing the demolition of the remaining buildings commenced.

This (demolition) part I know because I was actually there as I’d been contracted to do some video work for the night.

These days it’s open for all to come and see and also has a campground and a variety of trails to hike.

Exploring Jervis Bay Area including Point Perpendicular (Beecroft Weapons Range) and, on the opposite side of the bay the ruins of Cape St George Lighthouse.

The people in the second photo were about to rock climb the cliffs, I got anxiety looking over the 91 meter drop!!

Cape St George lighthouse was intentionally destroyed due to its colour glowing in the moonlight causing problems for ships.
