THE MONKEY is the second film in twelve months from director Osgood Perkins (LONGLEGS) and is based on a short story by Stephen King.

I really dug this movie.

Without going into spoilers, it’s a keen mix of FINAL DESTINATION and ANNABELLE, but takes on this incredibly dark sense of humour and knows how to have fun with itself. This might be one of the darkest black comedies I’ve ever seen - Perkins truly has his finger on the pulse.

While LONGLEGS’ self-seriousness was to its detriment, THE MONKEY’s ability to kick back and enjoy itself lends to its success.

Best seen with a crowded cinema.

8/10.
