Yesterday, I ran🏃➡️the Sydney City2Surf for the second time. Last year, I trained myself over eight weekends and focused on just crossing the finish line. This year, I took a different approach; there was less training, but I had a plan. I treated it like a project at work, using my previous experience to develop a strategy for not just a faster time, but also a more sustainable pace.
It's incredible how many parallels there are between the two. The importance of pacing yourself, the need for a clear goal, and the value of learning from past results - it all applies whether you're tackling a big project or a 14kms race to the finish line. Also helps when your Spotify starts playing "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" 🌄 just when I started ascending the infamous Heartbreak Hill.
The result? A new personal best and, more importantly, I crossed the finish line feeling strong, not exhausted in one of the wettest and coldest in the last 12 years.
The City2Surf is a powerful reminder that strategy and mindset are just as crucial as physical effort which 90,000 participants displayed in the cold & wet weather - kudos to every single participant who ran and walked to cross the finish line.
This year, my colleagues and I at Talent Quarter was running to support National Breast Cancer Foundation. If this post resonates with you, and you're in a position to help, please consider donating to my fundraising page here: https://lnkd.in/gMFfJRaA
