📚Artists and their lives have always fascinated us, so we’ve added a new section to our site focused on artist memoirs and biographies. And since not all artists are painters, and this is an area we are developing with the launch of Greg Weight’s book “Exposure: A photographic memoir” — releasing this December. We’ll also be adding memoirs and biographies by arts luminaries, movers and shakers and creative innovators from a broad range of artistic categories. It’s about good reads with great visuals.

In the meantime, sign up for our newsletter and collect your discount on these favourite reads and any other books, including our books on sale.

đŸ—ș From the Piper Press travel vault:

Tracey Moffatt representing Australia at the 2017 Venice Biennale with the exhibition My Horizon exploring the plight of refugees, colonialism and memory but is open to wide interpretation. Utilising cinematic mystery and evoking past horrors, the external screened video, VIGIL, played close-up stills of white Hollywood stars – including Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland, looking aghast and horrified with intercuts of news shots of boats crowded with refugees
juxtaposed against Venice’s working canal and passing tourists. Inside the pavilion,
Moffatt evoked 40s film noir in photographs of lonely scenes of waiting, the Spanish maid, a vision of hell and other “discontinuities”.

For years we’ve taken photos of viewers viewing, lookers looking, and people who seem to bear resemblance to the art they’re experiencing
and stored it in a folder called YOU ARE THE ART.

Terrific works this year including:
Marley Dawson’s monumental circular sculptural work ‘1006 Portal’ (2024), works by Lesley Dumbrell, Juanita McLauchlan, winner of the MA Art Prize 2025 for ‘Mandaymanday / String of Stars’, and Brooke Garru Andrew among many others — plus the Photo Artists zone is highly recommended.
