I love this piece of the process when I've been working with an author (or in this case as it's an anthology - I should say 'authors') right from the beginning, and I get to congratulate them for doing the work! They've done what many others say they want to do, but just never get a round to doing it. They have written a book (or in the case of these authors, they've written a chapter for an anthology), and pretty soon their ideas will be available to the public, and you never know what happens after that. In my own case, writing my first book completely changed the trajectory of my life. But that's a story for another time.

What you're looking at in the image I've used are a couple of ISBN numbers (one is for the eBook and one is for the print version). These unique identifiers are needed for the books to be sold through retailers, and read or borrowed in libraries.

You're also looking at the emblem that represents the fact that the book is lodged with the National Library of Australia, and a listing of it exists on the Trove database. That hasn't actually happened yet in the case of the book in question which is called "Rising Into Greatness" because I've taken the screenshot from the imprint page of the book. The book itself still needs to be formatted and loaded onto the distribution platform where places like Amazon, Booktopia, Barnes and Noble and the like access their titles from.

I'm really proud of everyone who's contributed a chapter including Kylie Burton, Kez Wickham St George, Jo Goddard, Antonietta Peel, Gunnel Gigi Lindros, Donna Maree, Denna Szwajkowski, Diane Garland, and of course the person behind the project itself, the wonderful Jo Worthy

Launching this book at the State Library of NSW at my Author Showcase event on the 30th of November is going to be a highlight of a year that's been a trick one - that's for sure

Here's to all of us RISING INTO OUR GREATNESS!

I was talking to someone this morning and Michelle Bowden came up when I was suggesting people she could consider connecting with to get the help she is after. I sent her the link to the session of my "Authors in Conversation" series where Michelle talked about her book "How to Persuade: The skills you need to get what you want". I figured I'd share it here because EVERYONE could benefit from the material Michelle shares.

Michelle Bowden is talking with Jane Turner from Write With Jane about her new book "How to Persuade: The skills you need to get what you want". As Michelle ...

What's in a name?

There are a number of reasons authors might choose to use a pseudonym. For some it's a case of drawing a line between their personal and professional lives. Other's might want to start fresh after experiencing critical or commercial failures. In a sense they are reinventing themselves without the baggage of less than stellar past performances.

In the case of the author I worked with to bring this fabulous book out into the market, it was privacy that motivated her to use a pseudonym. She feared the retribution of her ex-husband who she chose to leave because he was bleeding the family's finances dry as a result of his gambling addiction.

I'd love you to share the link to buy the book in the comments section below, with anyone you think it may help.

I work with people who are writing books to build their profile and position themselves as an expert in their field. I also work with a small number of people who are sharing their story to help others and leave a legacy. These are smart people who have stepped up and answered the call to write a book without necessarily realising that writing the book is just the beginning.

The thing is, that if you're going to go to the trouble of writing a book, you don't want to skimp at the end when it comes to maximising the impact of what I call the valuable realestate that is the back cover, and a number of other things that will position your book in a way that will attract your target market.

Someone who has done this brilliantly is Anne McKeown. Anne's new book, "PUBLIC SPEAKING: From stage fright to spotlight" has just hit the market.

I want to congratulate Anne for the steps she took during the prelaunch phase, and the steps she's taking as we speak to get the word out there about her book. Among other things, Anne invited her contacts to read her manuscript prior to the launch date with the view to receiving feedback, and/or Amazon reviews both in the prelaunch phase and now that the book is available on Amazon.
You can actually get involved in this process if you'd like, but you'll have to be quick. You'll see what you need to do to access a free copy of Anne's book and leave her a review toward the bottom of this post.

Anne ticks a number of other boxes brilliantly as well, including making it patently obvious what the book is about through the title and subtitle, and making fantastic use of the back cover to reinforce what the reader is going to find in the chapters within the book.

It's also very clear that Anne has taken a lot of care with the description of the book on Amazon. You can read it for yourself below. I've added ***** at the beginning and end of Anne's Amazon description of her book.
