THERE GOES THAT SONG AGAIN w/ Brian Crabbe | Wednesdays 10:00am to 12:00pm with an encore on Friday 2:00pm to 4:00pm

The passing earlier this week of one of Australia's best-known radio personalities, John Laws, has been headline news in the mass media. Although much of his fame came as a talk-back radio host since 1967, before that he was a very popular music presenter, beginning at 3BO Bendigo in 1953.

His passing marks the end of an era, with all three of the most popular music presenters on Sydney radio in the 1950s and early 1960s now having died: Tony Withers, Bob Rogers and John.

In tribute, this week Brian is replaying as his Special in his second hour, a program remembering John's early years as a music presenter. The program was first aired a year ago on the occasion of his retirement from radio after an on-air career spanning 71 years.

Marking something that happened back on 13 October. In 1933 saw another first in Australia - traffic lights! In Sydney!

At the corner of Market and Kent Streets (incidentally, those streets were named in the first Sydney map - which we noted was first published 215 years ago last week).

On this day in 1887, Nellie Melba made her operatic debut and on less formal note - a musical with Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey opens in 1931 in NYC.

Today's show will feature tracks from recent CD purchases and perhaps a few tracks acknowledging the facts stated here.
