THREADS OF RESILIENCE ✨

In our 2025 Women in Business, we share the story of Inosha Campion, —a brand woven from resilience, creativity, and the art of peaceful living.

Raised in Sri Lanka, Inosha’s love for textiles began early—sewing alongside her sisters, wandering fabric markets alive with colour, and witnessing the beauty of craftsmanship and community. Those formative years shaped not only her creative eye, but her values. When she lost her mother at just 15, it was her mother’s strength, integrity, and unwavering work ethic that became her compass—guiding her through life and business.

The word Sahana translates to peaceful living, a philosophy that underpins every design. In 2011, Inosha and her husband took a leap of faith, leaving corporate life behind for the Byron Bay hinterland. From this slower, more intentional way of living, Sahana was born—timeless garments designed to help women feel comfortable, confident, and at ease in their own skin.

Inosha’s commitment to sustainability runs deep. Working with natural fibres and rural artisans, particularly women, she champions ancient weaving techniques and meaningful, ethical production. Every piece carries hours of human connection—and a story worth honouring.

Earlier this year, Inosha’s journey took a profound turn with a breast cancer diagnosis. Amid treatment and recovery, her creativity became an anchor, and her community a source of extraordinary strength. The experience reshaped her perspective—reinforcing the importance of balance, self-care, and focusing on what truly matters.

Inosha’s story is a reminder that success isn’t polished or perfect—it’s real, resilient, and deeply human. Through Sahana Byron Bay, she has created more than a clothing label. She has created a sanctuary—one stitched with purpose, courage, and grace.

The Face of Wellness
As seen in DOWNTOWN Magazine’s Women in Business Issue – on sale now.

When Melanie Van Schelven founded The Face Place, she didn’t just open another dental clinic — she redefined what oral health could mean. Guided by her own health challenges and a deep curiosity for holistic wellness, Mel discovered the powerful connection between oral function and overall wellbeing.

“I never had any intention of starting my own business,” she admits, “but I was so inspired by what I’d unlocked in this little-known field of health.”

That field — Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) — has become her passion and purpose. Through The Face Place, Mel helps patients understand how the mouth affects everything from breathing and posture to digestion and sleep. Her approach looks beyond the teeth, focusing on the person as a whole.

Starting a business brought plenty of new lessons. “I knew absolutely nothing about business or social media,” she laughs. But driven by her mission to make OMT accessible, she learned, adapted, and thrived. Now, she’s an advocate for patient-centred care — where collaboration replaces hierarchy, and compassion leads the way.

As a mother and business owner, Mel is refreshingly honest about balance. “Work days are my work days, and otherwise, I’m mum.” Her story is one of courage, curiosity, and care — proof that passion can reshape an entire industry.

✨ Discover Melanie’s full story — and more tales of regional women rewriting the rules of success — in DOWNTOWN’s Women in Business edition, available now in newsagents and online at downtownmagazine.com.au.

From Silos to Sanctuary — The Vision of Amber Heffernan

Nestled in the rolling hills of Eurongilly Valley, The Silos Accomodation stands as a symbol of transformation — where legacy meets luxury and sustainability becomes a family affair. At the heart of it all is Amber Heffernan, a nurse-turned-entrepreneur whose vision reimagined old grain silos into a world-class eco-retreat.

Amber and her husband, Nick, saw potential where others saw practicality. “There has to be a better use for these,” Nick would say — and that spark became The Grain Loft, a curved architectural marvel that fuses modern design with environmental integrity. Solar power, heat pumps, and locally sourced furnishings make every stay not just a getaway, but a gesture toward a greener future.

For Amber, this project is deeply personal — an ode to her family’s farming roots and a promise to the next generation. “Luxury is possible without depleting the land’s resources,” she says. “We’re caretakers of this land for those who come next.”

From managing budgets to balancing motherhood, Amber’s story is one of grit, grace, and ground-up innovation. Her advice for women daring to dream? “Do it. Push yourself out of your comfort zone. Believe in your dream — and build a team that supports it.”

Featured in DOWNTOWN’s Women in Business issue, Amber’s journey embodies the spirit of regional resilience and creative reinvention — a powerful reminder that even the humblest beginnings can grow into something extraordinary. 🌾✨
