📸 Picture Perfect Imperfections | Meet Erinn Redfern

In a world obsessed with perfection, photographer Erinn Redfern is capturing something far more powerful: truth. Based in regional Australia and a mum of four, Erinn specialises in maternity, newborn, and family photography—but her work is about so much more than just taking beautiful photos.

Erinn’s journey began at 37, when she picked up her first professional camera and turned a personal passion into a thriving business. “Motherhood taught me everything I needed to know about connection, patience, and purpose,” she says. With a heart for storytelling and a love for the “perfectly imperfect,” Erinn honours the raw, tender, messy beauty of womanhood in every frame.

From bump-friendly gowns to a relaxed, judgement-free studio vibe, she creates a safe space where women feel seen, celebrated—and stunning. “One mum told me she’d never felt more beautiful than when she saw her photos. That’s everything,” she shares.

Juggling business and babies hasn’t been easy, but for Erinn, it’s been worth it. “Learning to value my time and set boundaries was one of the hardest parts,” she says, “but I wouldn’t be where I am today without the last decade of motherhood. It’s shaped who I am, in life and in business.”

Featured in our Women in Business issue, Erinn is one of many fierce, passionate women rewriting what success looks like in regional Australia. Her advice? “Aim for progress, not perfection. It’s never too late.”

Erinn’s story is a love letter to life’s fleeting moments—and the women bold enough to preserve them.

DOWNTOWN has always been a labour of love—one I’ve poured my heart into for over a decade. But this Women in Business issue arrived in my life when everything else was falling apart. And in the quiet hours between grief & grit, these pages reminded me who I am. Let’s go back. December 23, after an exhausting year of balancing 3 young children, the magazine, & building our dream home, my family finally moved into the house we had poured every ounce of ourselves into creating. Despite the financial strain of escalating building costs & the cost of living, we willingly embraced a life without luxuries, content with our new home. Then, just as I was catching my breath, life blindsided me. In February 2024, I was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the cervix. I pressed pause on DOWNTOWN—because sometimes you don’t get a choice. Between surgeries & trying to hold everything together for my family, I believed I could eventually return to work. But no one talks enough about the aftershocks. I hadn’t anticipated the mental toll or how impossible it would feel to climb out from under the weight of it all. Bills piled up. I let go of my small team—good people who had helped me build this magazine—because I could no longer afford to pay them. I was trying to keep DOWNTOWN alive on my own, all while drowning in debt, exhaustion, & shame. Beyond saving the magazine, I was fighting to keep our home. My partner worked tirelessly, yet our financial struggles deepened. Grocery shopping became a mathematical battle filled with humiliation & anxiety as my card repeatedly declined. I was burnt out, broken. I was done. And then, almost without realising, I found myself reading the stories of the women in this very issue. Stories from women across Australia—women with their own scars, reckonings, & hard-earned triumphs. Their words were honest & unapologetic. They talked about resilience not as a hashtag, but as a lived, daily act. And something in me cracked open. These women didn’t know it, but with every word they wrote, they stitched a little bit of me back together. The women in this issue reminded me of my own strength. And by sharing their stories, they unknowingly saved mine.

Meet Emily Bradbery, the powerhouse behind —a place where therapy meets heart, and children are empowered to thrive. Based in Tamworth, Emily has created more than just a clinic; she’s built a haven for families seeking compassionate, personalised care.
With international experience and a deep love for her rural roots, Emily returned home with a bold vision: to deliver world-class paediatric occupational therapy that celebrates each child’s unique magic. At Espire, therapy is collaborative, holistic, and joyfully tailored to the individual. Families, carers, schools—and even a furry therapy assistant named Horley—are all part of the journey.
From the outside, Espire shines as a leader in paediatric care. But behind the scenes is a woman who believes that kindness is a superpower, that collaboration trumps competition, and that leadership doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful. “You can be assertive without being aggressive,” Emily says. “Kindness and empathy have driven Espire’s success just as powerfully.”
As one of DOWNTOWN’s 2025 Women in Business features, Emily’s story is a reminder that great things happen when we return to our roots, trust in the process, and lead with heart. From therapy breakthroughs to the wag of Horley’s tail, every moment at Espire is a step toward confidence, connection, and growth.
Emily is not just shaping a business—she’s shaping lives. And as she prepares to welcome a new baby to her family, she reflects on her legacy with clarity: “I hope to be remembered as a successful and kind businesswoman. But more than that, I want to be remembered as a loving wife and mum.”
✨ This is what leading with love looks like.

Emma Tindale: Art of Backing Yourself

In DOWNTOWN’s Women in Business issue, we shine a light on bold women rewriting the rules — and artist is doing just that.

Emma didn’t follow the “traditional” path into the art world. No fine arts degree. No formal mentorship. Instead, she quietly taught herself to paint while building a career in PR and advertising. But the pull of creative work never let go. So, a year and a half ago, she took the leap: quitting her job, picking up her brushes, and choosing art full-time.

Her distinctive portraits feature elongated figures caught in quiet, intimate moments — lounging, sitting, slouching — echoing the elegance of fashion photography while staying deeply human. Inspired by everything from q***r icons to mid-century ads, Emma’s work feels modern, romantic, and strikingly personal.

Emma’s breakthrough came not through industry connections, but at The Other Art Fair in Sydney. A weekend of raw connection with viewers, curators, and gallery owners catapulted her career forward, leading to commissions, exhibitions, and opportunities she never expected.

While imposter syndrome still lingers, Emma is learning to trust her instincts: “Doing the work counts more than the resume.” Her advice to other women with creative dreams? Don’t wait. Back yourself.

Emma’s leap of faith — and the steady rhythm of her practice — remind us that presence is its own kind of power. And in every portrait, she invites us to pause, reflect, and maybe even see a bit of ourselves.

Read her full story in DOWNTOWN’s Women in Business issue — a celebration of bold women crafting their own paths with courage, clarity and care.

An Exclusive Conversation with Christine Anu ✨

Some interviews stay with you long after the final words are spoken. Our Editor had the absolute privilege of sitting down with the legendary Christine Anu for an intimate, soul-stirring conversation for DOWNTOWN’s upcoming Women in Business issue.

Of course, they spoke about her music—her latest album, Waku - Minaral A Minalay, a luminous tribute to culture and storytelling, released in August last year. But beyond the melodies and lyrics, the conversation ventured into the heart of what truly matters: family, love, and loss.

Christine shared stories that made them laugh, reflect, and, at times, even wipe away tears. Her words carried the warmth of an old friend, the kind of chat you’d have over a long, soulful cuppa. She spoke with raw honesty about the passing of her beloved mother, Zipporah Whap, on October 29, 2024—a loss deeply felt yet beautifully honored in the way Christine carries her legacy forward.

But above all, this conversation was one of joy. A celebration of resilience, of deep-rooted love, and of the incredible woman that Christine Anu is. It left us smiling for days—and soon, it will do the same for you.

Christine’s story, told with fearless candor and heartfelt grace, will feature in DOWNTOWN’s Women in Business issue—on sale in the coming weeks.

UP IN DOWNTOWN LIGHTS:

In a world where fashion is fleeting, Odet stands as a testament to artistry, longevity, and the beauty of the past reimagined. Founded in 2021 by Stefanie Mahony, the label is an ode to slow fashion, where every garment is a numbered, limited-edition piece—designed not just to be worn, but to be treasured.

Crafted with an innate sense of femininity and an uncompromising approach to quality, Odet blurs the lines between fashion and fine art. Stefanie’s vision? To create heirloom-worthy pieces that one day find themselves unearthed from an archive of memories—raided by future generations, rediscovered like hidden treasure, and given a second, third, or even fourth life.

Each collection tells its own intimate story, yet the philosophy remains the same: quality over quantity, timeless over trend. Odet’s thoughtful approach to textile and garment design is as much about preservation as it is about creation, ensuring that while the artistry lives on, its environmental footprint remains minimal.

Where fashion is art, and style is a legacy. Odet—a name to know, a designer to watch.
