Sadly, tragedy has struck in Bulahdelah, a cyclists fatally hit by a truck in a crash on the Pacific Highway this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Bombah Point Road around 6am following reports a cyclist had been struck by a truck.

MidCoast Council is urging residents to take simple but vital steps to help protect local wildlife as extreme heat conditions place increased stress on animals across the region, particularly vulnerable species such as koalas.

Koalas are especially at risk as they rely on tree canopies for shelter and obtain much of their moisture from eucalyptus leaves, which can dry out during heatwaves.

Fortunately, part of the structure was salvageable and still remains in place providing opportunity for the community to still be able to use.

Stage one and two of MidCoast Council's Black Head Pathway Project are complete with the final stage three expected to begin in early 2026.
