Lost and Found Sounds

Lost and Found Sounds A weekly journey through experimental audioscapes - Musique Conrète, abstract music, field recordings, spoken word experimentation & electronic music.

Presented by Hamish MacKenzie.

28/09/2025

Lost and Found Sounds this week goes a little noisy with tracks from KK NULL & David Brown off 'Terminal Hz' on Ground Fault, Facetoucher with a contribution to Burnt Seed Records' 'RTR2 Sessions' compilation, a track from an excellent collaboration between Merzbow & Kim Cascone - 'Rondo 7phase blowback' on Sub Rosa which sees Merzbow in an unusually tamed light, we've got a couple of tracks off a split-twixt-four CD on the Mexican label Obama The Cat: Ruidismo Anti-Humanos Records - one by Miki Naoe and the other by Theo Nugraha, and a track from a collaborative release from earlier this year between Georg Zichy and Reinhold Friedl - 'Vleisch', out through Opal Tapes.

We'll also hear a fabulous example of ambient sonic chaos from the scarcely heard Sydney-based ritualistic industrial instrument builder Ex-Species, there's a couple of contributions to the Industrial Coast Palestinian-aid fund-raiser 'The Nightmare Continues' - we'll hear Operation Spanner and BALF from that, plus there's a track from Shaun Robert off one of the Audio Reports on Institute For Alien Research, and we'll hear from Adelaide-based Subterranean Death Trap, from the excellent double CD 'Hypnotics'.

Coming up on this week's episode of Lost and Found Sounds will be tracks appearing on new releases by closing. ('VI') on Unfathomless, Roberto Vodanović Čopor ('What happens when we become silent') on Mahorka, Paul Wormhole's self-released album 'Lake 5b', Xqui from '17 Minutes' on Wormhole World and also on that label and by that artist there's a track from the as yet unreleased CD 'Ghosts Again'.

Plus there's the exquisite brand new release from Danish experimental sound and visual artist øjeRum - constructed from 33 tape loops, each of which have subsequently gone on to become physical manifestations of 'Music For Silent Figures' in the form of cassettes, that not only represent this extraordinary creative's sonic craft, but also his stunningly unique visual art with 2 collages-in-miniature inserted into each of the 33 cassettes. They need to be seen and heard!

And we'll also listen to works by Leo Okagawa from his CD 'Density' released through Dissipatio, Philip Sullidae from a release on LINE and an iconic work by Roz Cheney and John Jacobs that gave rise to the long-running ABC series of radio works The Listening Room.

Lost and Found Sounds this week will be airing tracks from the first 4 volumes in the forthcoming Sonitus series of various artist anthologies to be released in coming months on Post Orientalism Music, a label operated by Iranian experimental musician Ehsan Saboohi who we'll also hear from in collaboration with Camila Bolatti on another forthcoming album titled 'Qaf', also on his label. There'll be tracks from the anthologies by Lena Koucheri, RDKPL, Mohammad Reza Hashemi, Deniz Tafaghodi, Andrew Cheffings, and Chem XP.

There're new works from Cadlag off their album 'Tensor' on Pharmafabrik, a collaborative effort between Buffalomckee and DD Dobson that produced 'The Charity School Movement' on the intentionally-under-the-radar Hyster Tapes, a just-out release from EA-FOHRS ('Gullet') and we'll hear from an astonishing upcoming release on Room40 by Aki Ondo - 'In the Depth of Illusion: A Soundtrack for Nervous Magic Lantern', a soundtrack to a visual performance by experimental filmmaker Ken Jacob using his Magic Lantern, an extraordinary self-invented image projector.

And we'll also hear contributions by Ecka Mordecai & Malvern Brume, Artifical Memory Trace, and Banana to 'Synthetic Bird Music' on mappa.

On Lost and Found Sounds this week there's a couple of longform works - Steve Roden with Forms of Paper jointly reissued last year on vinyl, cassette and digitally, through Aurora Central Records and LINE, and a new collaborative work by Lance Austin Olsen and Gil Sansón - 'The Warrior' - on Somnimage.

There's also delightful works by Bren't Lewiis Ensemble from the Mission Approximated CD released on Butte County Free Music Society and the one and only Thug (Tex Perkins, the late Peter Read, and Lachlan McLeod) who were notorious for their chaotic discord, and not at all known for anything remotely harmonic even if chaotic, but there's a track perfectly fitting that description, which appeared only on a compilation released years after the band was relegated to the dirty annals of history.
