🔺 Emergency Services are working to put the fire out right now and conducting mitigation work around the town to try and stop the fire.
URGENT MESSAGE:
The fire might:
🔺Be coming closer to your community
🔺Change because of what the wind and weather is doing
🔺Burn property or people if it is not being controlled by emergency workers
RISKS:
🔺There's a chance the fire might get close to the road
🔺The fire is happening because the weather is very hot and windy
🔺Firefighters are working near the road
🔺Smoke from the fire might make it hard to see and breathe
WHAT TO DO:
🔺DO NOT LIGHT A FIRE
🔺Make sure you have plenty of water for drinking
🔺You should follow your bushfire survival plan so your family or home doesn't get burnt
🔺Keep an eye on how things are changing
🔺Listen to advice from the people in charge
🔺Do not travel to remote areas unless you really need too
ADVICE:
🔺The fire to the east of Tennant Creek might cross over to the other side of the Gosse River. If that happens, there could be a danger to the town.
🔺The people in charge of fighting the fire are making plans to keep everyone safe.
🔺If you're driving in the area, please slow down, turn on your headlights, and be careful.
🔺If you want more information about the fire, check the NT Fire Incident map - https://www.pfes.nt.gov.au/incidentmap/
🔺Remember to wear proper shoes, no thongs or bare feet.
🔺Fire bombing – stay away. Stay away from areas where firebombing is happening. Be careful when the water is coming out of the planes to put the fire out. The water is moving very fast and can kill or badly hurt you.
🔺Be careful when you are mowing or using equipment
🔺Lawnmowers and slashers can cause bushfires when the grass is dry
🔺Pick up any rocks before you mow because the rocks can make sparks.
🔺Fire - Smoky conditions - Health alert
🔺Smoke from bushfires can be dangerous, especially if you have asthma or another health problem.
🔺Put the AirHealth app on your phone to check the air quality where you are.
🔺When it gets very smoky outside, you should:
🔸 Avoid physical outdoor activity
🔸 Stay indoors, with windows and doors closed where possible
🔸 If using your air-conditioner, set it to recirculate
🔸 Follow your asthma action plan and seek immediate medical advice or care if needed
🔸 Call 000 in an emergency.
