The figure below shows the size of a wind turbine relative to power generation. A 17m wind turbine can make 75kW of power, whilst a 250m turbine can make 20,000kW of power. Within this context, rather than each home installing a small wind turbine, a larger community owned wind turbine will provide much greater efficiencies and cost benefits.

Of the listed forms of energy generation in the attached diagram, hydro, ocean, wind and solar PV would be classed as renewable. Geothermal, subject to source, can also be renewable. Biomass is normally provided by burning industrial or domestic waste, which should include the original energy required to make the products. Nuclear has a very low carbon intensity but includes significant risk in mining, processing, energy generation and the very long-term management of fuel waste. Gas, oil and coal are non-renewable fossil fuels.
