These are just some of my current clients and their sleep needs.

Same age? Not always.
Same sleep needs? Definitely not.

The range here is from 10 hours to 12.5 hours of sleep in 24 hours.

This is why generic schedules don’t work for every child.

The goal isn’t to fit your baby into a chart.

The goal is to find the amount of sleep that works for your child.

A 7pm bedtime isn’t a magic fix.

In fact, for some babies, it’s the reason for the bedtime battles, false starts, split nights, and early mornings you’re trying to fix.

One of the biggest things I teach parents is to stop looking at bedtime in isolation and start looking at the full 24 hours.

Because if your baby only needs 12.5 hours of sleep and you’re asking for 14…

Something has to give.

Usually at 2am.

Having Owen taught me something I wish I’d learned with Noah.

Neither of my boys fit the mould.

But with Noah, I spent so much time trying to make the schedules, wake windows, and advice online work.

With Owen, I let go.

I leaned into what he needed instead of what I thought he should need.

• Early mornings

Before you blame a sleep regression, remember there’s a lot happening at this age, walking, talking, separation anxiety, teething, and changing sleep needs.
