WAMBERAL — IT’S TIME FOR TAP TAP AND LESS YAP YAP
At last night’s Council meeting, a rescission motion seeking to overturn the previous decision on Wamberal was defeated — with the vote narrowly split 8–7.
This means the original motion raised by Councillor Doug Eaton still stands and can now be acted upon.
Under that motion, Council will request ministerial authorisation for development works by the NSW Reconstruction Authority in circumstances where a Reconstruction Area has been declared.
Council also resolved that it does not consider further temporary works appropriate for Wamberal Beach, following advice from consultant engineers that terminal protection structures — such as a rock revetment — are the only practical option to reduce ongoing risk to dwellings while improving and sustaining public beach amenity and safety.
For context, temporary emergency coastal protection works were granted for The Entrance North, which has since allowed residents there to move ahead with construction and restore parts of the beach frontage.
The motion now paves the way for Wamberal to finally see a pathway toward some form of rock revetment or long-term coastal protection — not just more meetings and talk.
After years of setbacks, it’s time for action on the ground.
