I was wondering what to post today and then it landed - in my inbox!

I'm so happy with feedback like this! (ignore the edit request in the middle!!)

To put it into context this was a video project to bring the company values to life!

I worked with HR and Internal Comms and collaboratively we had quite a good idea of what we wanted before shoot day.

But they trusted me with the edit and gave me freedom to come up with something creative.

so i went a bit 'off piste'

and they loved it !

importantly, it will help engage their audience and further the good work they are doing 😃

A year ago our client Construction asked us to take a picture of their site in the same position every 10 minutes for the duration of the project. Well, actually they asked us to install a time lapse camera to monitor progress and assist with project deliverables!

We provided the project management and marketing teams real-time access to high-quality photos as they were taken.

14,000 pictures later we dismantled it and will now produce the polished time lapse video!

I recently took on a video project which tested my expertise and professionalism…

The client wanted to video an important event but said no big cameras and capture it discreetly!

In short - I had to leave the big cameras at home!

I felt naked!

But this was no ordinary event, it was a family event and a huge milestone. So I went into action..

But the purpose of this post is not to talk about the technicalities, rather, that like never before, I had to be clear on the key question one should consider for any video related project - what is the purpose of the video?

In this case, to capture memories and to tell a story

So having asked for a run sheet and table plan..

I then I went into my video kit ‘armoury’!

Key learnings:

- Preparation is key.
- Understand the brief and manage the client’s expectations (particularly with image quality in this case).
- Size sometimes doesn’t matter!
- clear audio was more important than image clarity in this case.

and what a fun and amazing event it was too :)

Couldn't resist to jump on camera to share some thoughts as to how to get the best performance from your staff when creating internal video comms.

It also demonstrates the need to always hire a camera operator - although my receding hair line takes a welcome break here :)

How Do You Measure the Effectiveness of Your Videos?

The effectiveness of your video largely depends on its purpose. e.g:

🔹 Event Videos: For instance, a conference opening video watched by all attendees can provide an energized start to your event. This is straightforward to measure because your audience is right there, captive and (hopefully) wide awake!

🔹 Customer Journey Videos: When your video is part of a broader digital strategy, metrics become essential. Dive into the analytics offered by your hosting or distribution platform. Most social media platforms and CRMs offer extensive insights, but advanced video hosting platforms like Wistia give you even more control over your video’s performance.

🔍 Some Key Metrics to Track:

- View Count: How many times was your video watched?
- Engagement: Are viewers watching the entire video or dropping off early?
- Click-Through Rate: Are viewers taking the desired action after watching your video?

🔹 Customer Feedback: Beyond numbers, the most powerful insights come directly from your audience. Ask your customers:

Did the video engage them?
Did it help in their decision-making process?
How could it be improved?

Gathering and analyzing this feedback will give you a comprehensive understanding of your video’s impact and guide you in creating even more effective content in the future.

I find more than often (especially with inner city construction sites) that the biggest challenge to setting up a timelapse camera is obtaining permission from neighbouring owners for the perfect vantage point.

So you simply have to spin more plates...

Pls excuse the interruption.

As business owners, we understand the importance of outsourcing.

But when it comes to outsourcing video production does it mean stepping back and letting creators work their magic?

While this may work for creative content, I find for narrative led, testimonial videos, a collaborative approach works wonders. I'm talking about jointly reviewing the conversations and structuring the narrative.

You know your product best, so working together to shape the story can exceed your expectations and save time and money.

I like a collaborative approach. Interested to hear your thoughts on this...

A bit of behind-the-scenes from a corporate video shoot here in Melbourne.

I remember there was a lot going on, but with an experienced team and good prep (script / storyboard and production schedule) all went swimmingly!

Crucially i was relaxed and able to work with the talent ( whilst not checking the audio levels !)
