Roadkill Grill in Las Vegas did not disappoint. We stopped by John Mull’s Meats & Road Kill Grill while in town for CrimeCon, and honestly, what better place to talk true crime, cult behavior, and barbecue than a place called Roadkill Grill?

Big thanks to Chuck for welcoming us and taking care of us with an incredible meal. I was there with my friend John Poland of Right Angle Media as we talked about the upcoming Psychology of Cults Tour, coming this November and December across Canada and Australia. Great food. We’re taking Profiling Evil on the road. From Germany, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands, we’re looking at more than crime cases. We’re talking evidence, fear, geography, victimology, beautiful places with dark histories, and the way good investigations come together one fact at a time.

I’ll be home just in time to head to CrimeCon, where I’ll be speaking on the big stage for the third year in a row. I can’t wait to meet so many of you there. We’ll see you soon, at the next crime scene.

I was fortunate to take part in the new 4-part documentary series Outback Murder Highway, now airing in Australia on Channel 9 and 9Now. This project takes viewers into the long, lonely stretch of Queensland’s Flinders Highway, a corridor tied to decades of unsolved murders and disappearances.

I loved wandering the Australian Outback while working on this one. There’s something about that landscape, its beauty, its isolation, and its sheer scale. But that same isolation also matters when you’re trying to understand how offenders move, how victims disappear, and why some cases go cold for decades. I had a blast filming the Big Boy 4014 as it rumbled past through Utah and on toward Wyoming today. There’s just something about seeing a machine that big, that loud, and that full of history rolling down the tracks that makes you feel like a kid again.

Union Pacific’s Big Boy locomotives were built starting in 1941 to haul heavy loads between Ogden, Utah, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. At 133 feet long and weighing 1.2 million pounds, these engines weren’t just powerful, they were built to do serious work during a critical time in American history.

No. 4014 was retired in December 1961 after traveling more than 1,031,205 miles, then brought back home to Cheyenne for restoration and returned to service in 2019. Watching it thunder by today was something I won’t forget.
