Be dangerously productive with these 7 tips to getting way more sh%t down in so much less time. And the best part? No to-do list in sight!

1. Do little tasks immediately
That means now! Don’t wait for a break in the rain. Action those pesky tasks that you just keep shoving down the list first up and watch your day improve in a big way.

2. Plan your conversations
Before you get on that next phone call or Zoom chat grab a post-it and write down 3 things you’ll kick yourself if you don’t discuss. Cross them off while you get through them for extra points.

3. Do creative tasks early in the day
Writing, making and dreaming are all best done at the earliest part of your day when your creative energy is at its peak. The soulful part of your job will also set a great tone for the rest of your day.

4. Let in the sunlight
Hey you sitting there in the darkest corner of your house with the good wifi... Embrace a window! Or head to a sunnier room and watch your mood and productivity soar. Light literally brings you more light.

5. Chunk up your time
Apparently Elon Musk divides his day into 5 minute intervals. Whoa! You don’t need to be that extreme but divide your day into comfortable intervals and divide and conquer.

6. Skip the afternoon coffee
Don’t hate us for this! But that admittedly delicious energy peak will come and bite you on the butt in a few hours (usually when you’re trying to sleep). Obviously it’s up to you. But - don’t :)

7. Pin some art
Grab a piece of abstract art no matter how big (you know those postcards at your local cafe work great) and hang it proudly. Even something small and bright will give your brain some breathing room.

A post shared on LinkedIn News recently quoted a November 2020 American study claiming 72% said they worked from their bed. With one in ten admitting to spending “most of the working week” ie, 24-40 hours in bed. Really?

Just the idea of working this way fills me with dread.

My most productive working spaces are my desk, the kitchen table, the podcast recording room at Auzbiz, and very occasionally the window table of my local cafe. Am I missing something?

Just to be sure I checked in with Time Management expert, Kate Christie.

“My bed is for rest and reading and pleasure…my desk is not really for any of these things – although I do love working with my clients,” she said.

Science supports this idea – in fact all evidence suggests from a productivity and health point of view doing this is a very bad idea.

Research from a myriad of studies show working from bed wreaks havoc with everything from sleep quality (because bed is then equated with wakefulness), posture, relationship problems, neck issues, shoulder problems and perhaps most revolting of all – personal hygiene.

According to dermatologist Dr. Alok Vij we shed enough dead skin cells per day to feed one million dust mites and upwards of 15 million of these cells are shed at night.

And we used to think a dirty laptop was bad.
