How do the Blue Pools get this electric blue colour?

Very fine particles of clay produced by glacial erosion (also known as glacial flour) sit within the water of the Blue Pools. When light hits the water, the glacial flour absorbs the purple/indigo wavelengths and the water absorbs the red/orange/yellow wavelengths. This leaves us with blue/green wavelengths, and that’s why the water appears this colour to our eyes.
