Sterculia quadrifida - also known as the ‘peanut tree’ or ‘monkey nut’. Found in northern Australia and New Guinea. Bright orange/red seed pods spilt open to reveal a black nut that is edible once the husk is fully removed. They have a distinct peanut taste. Aboriginals used the leaf of this tree to treat wounds and stings.
