More than 36,000 people took part in the Sydney Marathon on Sunday, August 30, including a handful from the Fleurieu Peninsula. One of them broke their own world record time six days after their son was born, and another captained the SA Country footy side to victory the afternoon beforehand.

Each year on August 31, Australia commemorates Malaya and Borneo Veterans’ Day, honouring those who served during the Malayan Emergency (1948–1960) and the Indonesian Confrontation (1962–1966). Local Vietnam Veteran Rob Verco was one of the people who served in Malaya after the Indonesian Confrontation.

A P plater driving a car with near-bald back tyres was allegedly speeding 54km/h over the limit at Strathalbyn on Sunday afternoon, September 6.
Highway Patrol officers on Callington Road allegedly detected the Holden Commodore station wagon travelling at 134km/h in the 80km/h zone at about 5pm.
The vehicle was pulled over and officers spoke with the driver, a 20-year-old Callington man holding a provisional licence.
He was reported for aggravated excessive speed and lost his licence immediately for six months, and will face court at a later date.

Do you support a dog off-leash space along the beach between Harbour View Terrace and Oakham Street at Encounter Bay? It has been subject to a trial which has since concluded, but locals have asked the City of Victor Harbor to re-instate the trial until “an alternate location can be found”.
